I really don't get them either. I don't hate them, but I just can't see why they are such the darlings of the critics and media. I felt the same way about Pearl Jam.
I think R H's best song was creep. because of the "EH!EH!" guitar hiccup.

radiohead is the yes of our generation. i was gonna say pink floyd, but syd barret made them cool for a little while at least, so it wouldn't be a valid comparison.

i was gonna say pink floyd...but i like pink floyds albums with david gilmour as well so...

Radio Head is one of my favorite bands. "Ok computer" is their best album. It's the album right inbetween their transformation from being a heavily guitar influenced band to a more electronic sounding band. It's a mixture of both styles and i think it's very powerful and emotional.

Radio Head is the type of band that really grows on you the more you listen to it. That's how it got me. You might want to give it a couple more good listens.

IMO "OK computer" is the best, then "the bends" and then Pablo Honey..the later stuff is good too but i prefer the older stuff. The more electronic ones also take alot more patience to enjoy, espessially if you love the older stuff.

Anyways...heres a few of my favorite songs...

Subteranian Homesick Alien, Let Down, Lucky, The Tourist, You, The Bends, Planet Telex, Fake Plastic Trees, Nice Dream, My Iron Lung, Stop whispering, No suprises

Radiohead rock my ass. They along with Bjork are my favorite artists. They write cool beautiful songs that are wonderfully and creatively produced. Listen to "Fake Plastic Trees" or "Pyramid Song" or "No Surprises". Simple, gorgeous melodies. The only record of theirs I Don't have is Pablo Honey. I like Creep well enough but think that was just a good start.

Why you don't get them is a mystery to me. I can't possibly know what sounds/melodies/rhythms flip that magic switch in your belly that makes you feel the rock. If you don't get them it ain't no thing but for some of us, they do it like nothing else!!

As for what to listen to...are you more into heavy rock or more esoteric stuff. The songs I listed all have beautiful melodies and are a bit mellow. If you like harder rock try listening to The Bends and some of OK Computer. I personally love esoteric production and even so, Kid A and Amnesiac took a while for me to get.

Or...you can blow the whole thing off and just decide that they suck. For every fanatic like me there's gotta be a hater like you to keep it all balanced !! wink

Happy Hunting ARRR!!!

It's fucking beautiful, and every time I listen I hear something completely new.

Plus, for some reason I can't even begin to figure out, their live show kicks the living shit out of their recordings. Going to see them could definitely change your mind. As much as I've always liked them, I never understood how they got popular until I saw them live.

i'm personally not a big fan. i enjoy theire guitar driven stuff more. i like their electronic stuff better live. i saw them on mtv2's two dollar tour and liked some of the stuff. then i listened to the actual studio recordings and wasn't as impressed.

i don't really DISLIKE radiohead, i just don't particularly like their prog rock leanings. it seems like a lot of the time they sacrifice songwriting (and melody, more specifically) for flat-out aural wankery. the songs i do like by them tend to be the singles, which i suppose is because they put more effort into making them catchy.

so some people don't like them. who cares? different tastes, people. i love them, but i know a lot of people find thom whiny. i can see that. they think morrissey is whiny too, some of 'em. i think it depends on what you respond to in the music you like.

i like them, but if you don't who cares... it's all a part of personal preference, I'm not on a crusade to make people like them, so it doesn't matter to me a bit if people dont.

how many things are wrong here? 1. radiohead is one word...2. "totally" has 2 t's not 3. i believe you mean "nowhere"...beside those 3 i would just be turning in a grammar nazi. but, i do have to agree with mr. souljacker...get a clue about music man...if all you want are happy ass hooks then you are definently looking in the wrong place. go listen to poison or something.

ummm...where do they sacrifice melody? do you even know what that means? i hate it when people bash bands, and try to use impressive musical terms like "melody" and "songwriting". go listen to ok computer. no, really. go do it. now tell me there is any lack of melody. (hint: listen to the other stuff...not just the big loud things that go boom boom bap.)

(sigh)
