It is said that these (Slayer, Megadeath, Metallica and Anthrax) are the big four thrash/metal bands that have influenced heavy music today. Which of these four do you give your undying allegiance to? For me, this is simple, Slayer, I feel, no I KNOW that they are the most Metal motherfuckers out there and everyone should be with me on this one.
To back up my claim ,Kerry King is not only scary as shit, he breeds snakes in his free time, not to mention the type of fan support they get! Have you ever seen Metallica get their name cut into someones back with a razor right before a show? Doubt it. Personally I think the big four should be the big one, FUCKIN' SLAYER! What do you think?!
I think you're a little off your nut here IMHO. If you're going to pay homage to any of these guys as influential, go back a bit further to their predecessors: Black Sabbath, Motorhead, Venom, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest.
Of those four you listed, I'm going with Anthrax since they're local boys. Spreading the Disease is possibly one of my favorite metal albums ever.

Hey man I'm with ya Zeppelin is the greatest in my book but I'm talking Thrash and Metal. I know that NWOBHM is really what influenced these metal bands I'm just talking about the "Big Four" My man

C'mon, well all know this guy pwns all four of them:
Personally, I would say slayer, just for their "metal" content. Slayer and Metallica are probably the biggest of the influentials. Both in their prime were great bands and held the distinction of representing the entirety of metal at some point, which I find to rather funny because they were just the most accessible metal bands then. For myself, NEITHER band had anything to do with my interest in metal, actually Sepultura was the band that kinda paved the way for me. I think its kinda limited to just say those four, because depending on the person, it could of been some other band.
Thats kinda off topic, good job brain. If were talking influencing, which I represented as getting people into metal see above paragraph. I think those bands might have been a gateway to the thrash genre but its likely people that "play" metal had other bands in mind as they searched harder and got more serious about the music, those four are just the tip of the ice berg, in the early 90s when they were really popular, so was a shit ton of thrash bands.
Geez, I just flashed back to 1994! This argument came up about every morning during weight training (high school football).
It was pretty moot, though. We only had one tape, and that was AC/DC . . . every morning . . . the same songs . . . over and over and over and over and over . . .
To this day, I want to beat the hell out of any guy wearing a school uniform.
Metallica is the only one I've ever really liked from that bunch but not the new stuff really. And by new I mean anything beyond the Black Album (with a few songs as exceptions)
So yeah, this:

Well, I'll always have a special place in my heart for Cliff Burton era Metallica since Master of Puppets was the first cassette I ever bought. I liked Hanger 18, but Megadeth always kinda seemed lame to me. And I never got into Anthrax. But, I think you're correct in saying that Slayer was and still are the kings! They are just so much goddamn heavier than the other three. In fact, I kinda never understood why Slayer was lumped in with the "Big Four."
Wow, tough one. Slayer jumped the shark after South of Heaven. God Hates Us All? Seriously...you guys.
Metallica hasn't made a good record since Cliff died. If you disagree with this, your metal taste is not fully developed, and you probably also believe Pantera is great metal.
And Anthrax's catalog now looks, and sounds like, a goofy joke. The only Anthrax album that was really any good and standing the test of time is Fistful of Metal with Neil Turbin (and S.O.D.'s first, except that's not Anthrax).
Megadeth is a band....sorry, let me restate.
Megadeth is Dave Mustaine, and he has pretty much stuck to his guns. I saw them last year, and the band and Dave were fucking great. Dave also has been consistently putting out good (not great...good) records long after the aforementioned bands. Megadeth is a little tamer now, more mature and adult contemporary version of the earlier records. Consistent nonetheless, and Killing remains Dave's business.
You must like the four of them equally, but if I had to pick one, it would be Megadeth (not Megadeath). Dave Mustaine is a genius and they are way underrated.
And you can see it, since everyone is going with Slayer or Metallica.
I'm going to say Slayer, with Megadeth a close second. I just saw the Midsummer Melee show with those two and Testament, and I tell ya Slayer killed it! Two pits going full steam through the entire set, you can't get anymore thrash than that. Megadeth did the entire classic 'Rust in Peace" record and put on a great show too.
