For me, it's everything I hoped it'd be. Just massive, stomping rock music. Reptiles stands out on a first listen, but there wasn't a tune I felt I'll be skipping. I'll have this on repeat play I think. Soooo glad I got hold of a ticket for December
I have tickets to see them Thursday. What was their show like Clio? With this being their first album how did they fill time when you saw them or did they just play a shorter set? Love the music and can't wait for the show.
Roshambo, they have enough songs to fill up an entire concert. They aren't new to music at all. Dave Grohl of Nirvana and The Foo Fighters, Josh Hommes of Queens of the Stoneage, and John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin. I haven't seen them live but from what I've gathered from research, they had somewhere around 80 minutes worth of music they recorded and all of which was new songs.
Personally, I love the album. It will definitely be a purchase of mine when it gets officially dropped. I love blues, and I love good old fashioned rock and the album seems to be the perfect blend of each. I've been anticipating this release for a couple months now and now that I've downloaded it and gotten a listen several times through and I can honestly say that it was well worth the wait. Now I just have to manage a means to see them live.
It is remarkable. It's the first rockin' album I've heard in a long time that also made me appreciate its artistry and skill. This is a solid block of musicianship. I'd been afraid that it'd be crushingly disappointing, but I can't stop playing it. ~f~

I know thier backgrounds, was just curious if they were going to play through their entire album, cover some of their older bands work etc. Just curious to know what to expect. The album is great. I can't wait for it to hit Itunes Tuesday and for the concert on Thursday.
I loved it -- I preordered it on iTunes, so when it leaked I downloaded it early guiltlessly -- hell of an album -- best rock album in a long time. can;t wait to see them this week.
I love it!!! So much better than I expected, and I'm fairly picky with my music. and the band itself is an awesome dream team! Can't wait to see them live!
i haven't had time to listen to any of the digital offerings out there just yet, but i saw them last month in philly and i can honestly say i was in a trance the entire show. absolutely amazing, everything i had been hoping for...pure rock, and true musical talent. granted, i adore queens of the stone age and eagles of death metal and would gladly have josh homme's babies, but still...it was delicious, fantastic, and just thick and full of ferocity. can't wait to get my hands on the actual cd on tuesday.
Homme is a quality song writer but so far I've found it less interesting than QOTSA. That said, I've heard only bits and pieces, not all the way through.

I wrote a review about the show for the newswire a couple of months ago:
I had all the Kyuss, all the Zeppelin, a couple Foo Fighters records and most of the QOTSA. I don't like this project much at all. I find it kind of annoying. I feel like this record is all Josh, with occasional interesting bass and drum chugging flourishes that seem pretty deliberately Zeppelin-esque. It just doesn't hold together well.
Lately I find Josh Homme's music a little too schizophrenic. Constantly shifting just for the sake of shifting, never fully rocking out. Kind of like a stoner Mr. Bungle. I really wanted to like this record, but I've tried to get through it twice now and haven't been able to stomach it. Then again I didn't like Era Vulgaris much, and let's not even talk about the Eagles of Death Metal. I just like my rock to have more teeth and less posturing.
