Is this possible? Yes it is! Just listen to any Live album. Ed's lyrics make no sense and are just retarded. They are well sung they just don't make sense.

Steve Miller wrote some great melodies and wrote some great music especially before he hit it big in the 70s, but he's always been a very very weak lyricist.

a couple of offenses:

"It takes a little bit of lovin/it takes a little bit of huggin"--"Children of the Future"

the rhyme of "taxes" and "facts is" in "Take the Money and Run"

"Hash Pipe" by Weezer? I don't mind the subject matter, it's just that the lyrics are kinda artless, don't scan and are worded in a tacky way.

Everything by Beck. None of his lyrics mean anything. They just sound good in an offbeat way. "My hormones are very tempting......."

A lot of U2 songs, especially the early ones... scream "I AM TRYING TOO HARD/I AM EXCEEDING MY CAPABILITIES/AS A WRITER/AS A WRITER"

Pumpkins... tons of songs, but the one that springs to mind immediately is "..despite all my rage/I am still just a rat in a cage.." The saddest part about it is you just know some 15 year old suburban kid is listening to it right now and saying "He really feels my pain, man."

Lots and lots of Dictators' songs. I really like them, but sometimes their lyrics are just terrible.

What's up with that?
Wo-oh-oh, what's up with that?

I was going to say Beck. I don't care much for him in general, but there are some cool songs.

In the case of Beck, Dylan or more obscure lyricists like Peter Brown (Cream), remember some artists intentionally try to confound you with free-associative lyrics. Others just are bad, bad writers.

See, Dylan was just banking on being able to coast in the 80's. He knew the well was going to run dry at some point, so he migh as well make it seem like he was just mining the same vein as Tarantula and Bringing it All Back Home.

The Misfits anyone?? And I mean the real Misfits back when Glenn was still in the band, cause anything they've done since reforming doesn't qualify as "GOOD". Here's an example....Return of the fly, return of the fly, with Vincent Price, Yeah, return of the fly, Helen Delambre, Helen Delambre, Francois, Francois, Return of the fly, You ginea pig, human hands and feet, yeah you guinea pig.....and so on. Or how about this tidbit from We Are 138: Do you think we're robot clean, does this face look almost mean, is it time to be an android not a man, the pleasantries are gone, we're stripped of all we were, in the eyes of tiger. I mean, these songs sound great, they're all classics, but these lyrics are pretty pitiful. OK, I'll leave you with one more, but you'll hafta figure out for yourself which song this verse comes from....You don't know who I'm talking to, Why? Because, No one ever did, I feel it coming down my head.....

Lyrics for Debaser are good - they're talking about how much they like "Chien d'Andalou". And what's wrong with that?

I think what aloud Danzig to get away with it was that he always was kind of "wink, wink, nug, nug" ironic about it...like, "if your smart, you'll see the humor because you'll know these songs are intentionally stupid, and if you're an idiot, you won't know the difference, so who cares?" ...as with The Ramones, I have to believe glen and the boys were totally self-aware of their own stupidity...at least I hope...surreal

So what? Those dudes from The Locust and The Blood Brothers don't make any sense, ever and their lyrics are hilarious...I will agree that the guy glassjaw sucks as a songwriter, though...

I hate to say this of one of the most important indie rock bands in the music's history, but sometimes Sonic Youth really write some laughable lyrics, too...sometimes its sort of an on purpose dadaist-punk thing, but...well, just listen to the lyrics on NYC Ghost and Flowers
