So I'm guessing the White Stripes didn't give him permission so he had to make it slightly different from their song.

i don't think permission enters into it. parody is fair use.

"Germs" in the style of NIN, "I'll Sue Ya" in the style of Rage Against the Machine, "Dare to be Stupid" in the style of Devo.

I like his style parodies a whole lot.

He said in an interview once that he prefers to get permission from the artists before he records a parody. If they say no, then he sually doesn't record it, but he still uses the songs in his live shows
