i'm seeing them March 2nd in Chicago - they're doing a special extended show with no support act where they're playing songs chronologically from throughout their career - i can't fucking wait!

more details on the "Chronology" shows:

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

OPETH: More Details Surface Regarding 'Live Observation' Performances

Sweden's OPETH have revealed more information about their upcoming
special performances, dubbed "Chronology MCMXCIV- MMV - A Live Observation By Opeth", which will take place in select U.S. markets on their upcoming tour. The shows, which are scheduled for New York City's Town Hall (Feb. 23), Chicago's House of Blues (March 2) and Los Angeles' Wiltern Theatre (March 14), will consist of a chronologically played setlist, starting with music from the very first record, "Orchid", and ending with vibes from the latest opus, "Ghost Reveries". These extended sets are exclusive to the three dates and there won't be any support bands on these nights.

OPETH and crew will also bring in extra production and screens in order to try and make this the ultimate OPETH live experience. The band promise a very varied setlist and songs that have never been played live before. The setlist will boast no less than four songs that haven't been performed on American soil and several others that haven't been played for years.

Penfold and I are also going to the Chicago show.

i did not know anything of them until this year when Penfold introduced me to their music. i have Damnation and i like that a lot. i know that isn't really representative of them as a whole though.

i watched the Lamentation DVD last time Penfold was up. he wanted to make sure i was okay with the music before he bought us the tickets to the show.

i know that this is predominantly a US based site, and was wondering how popular opeth are over there. i was in new york over the summer and got a guitar at a cheaper price because i was playing some of their repertiore in the shop! a good steal i thought! an ibanez universe for $1500!!!

I will now pop back in to say the show last night was most excellent . Their current drummer is a fucking beast on the kit . I still can't get over how good he is . And Mike is quite the cut up on stage . Nice to see a band with such musical skill doesn't necessarily take itself too seriously .

Seeing them October 9th. Recently converted to the way of Opeth when someone insisted I listen to The Lotus Eater. I thought it was pretty cool, bought the song and another from Watershed from iTunes... bought the rest of the album.... bought Ghost Reveries... bought Blackwater Park.... bought Damnation, Deliverance, Still Life, Morningrise, My Arms Your Hearse... bought Roundhouse Tapes. Now I wonder how I managed to not hear them all this time, I already listen to plenty of obscure metal but somehow I never got anything more from them than their name.
