not sure how I never noticed this thread before...

I have an intense and deep love for the music of Nick Cave....old and new. I'm kinda bummed with the negative words about "Boatmans Call" though...I love that album. infact...I'd put "Lime Tree Arbour", "Brompton Oratory" and "Are you the one that I've been waiting for" up there with his best....

if you're gonna start downloading, I'd say this is a good way to get started....make a CD....track it like this...

1. In the Ghetto (cover)
2. Tupelo
3. Red Right Hand
4. Lime Tree Arbour
5. Deanna
6. Nature Boy
7. Are you the one that I've been waiting for?
8. Henry Lee
9. Stagger Lee
10. Nobodys Baby Now
11. Disco 2000
12. Death is not the end (cover)
13. Do You Love me?

i think that'll get anybody interested in him that wasn't before...

hmmmm it seems you and me disagree on certain specifics and yet we both like the Boatmans call, I mean "Are you the one I have been looking for?" is a good song, good enough for the best of NCaBS compilation album, but it no way near my faivourites from that album, "People aint no good" "Where do we go now but no where" "Idiot Prayer" (with "west country girl" getting an honourable mentions for having phrases like "monkey gland" and lines like"she meows I love you and then meows again"wink stand out from the rest if the album personally.
I am also not to fond of how you have mixed your tracks for the compilation CD you suggest....but I would probably still listen to it anyways heheh

The Weeping Song, The Ship Song, and Henry Lee.
Oh, right. And everything else the man has ever done.

Oh comon now Nick cave has had a few off songs, "He wants you from" Nocturama, "Black Hair" from Boatmans Call, "Sweet heart come" from No More Shall We Part, you cant tell me that these songs dont come off as either repetitive, awkward and generally not great music.
But I must admit that Henry Lee is such a good song that it was stuck in my head for a month or so, I think to a unhealthy point in which I have prevented myself form getting the murder ballads album for fear of getting sucked into its not so subtle concept and never returning...............................
But that was before I ever had an intimate relationship, I know now that I am strong enough to enjoy the Murder ballads and not beleive that every relationship I shall ever partake in is described by this album.

watch the movie WINGS OF DESIRE

Yes, do it. It also features Crime and the City Solution.

Mick Harvey did two records of Serge Gainsbourg songs in English - Intoxicated Man is the better of the two - with Anita Lane.

.Perspective: Even Nick Cave on a bad day (Nocturama? Boatman's Call?) is righteous shit.

Anybody see the film Ghosts of the Civil Dead - apparently written, starring and scored by his Nickness, possibly something Oz-like? I haven't a clue. So, fill me in

"Ghost of the Civil dead is a film about Prison and what it does to the human mind....really cool film if you can find it....here is from a review for a better idea:

"One of the great mysteries of aesthetics is where to draw the line between exploitation and art. .....For those of us without direct experience of the prison system, it made us afraid both of the people who are 'contained' within prisons, and of what is being done to these people in our name. For this film is social commentary at its most uncompromising. It is not a documentary, though it uses documentary techniques Ghosts of the Civil Dead is fiction, not in any sense a reconstruction of recognisable events, and certainly not of Jack Henry Abbott's life. But in creating its fictional world – a world set in the present of the filmmaking – it builds upon Abbott's letters to Norman Mailer, and provides the viewer with a shocking and compelling insight into an alien and disturbing culture. The liberal conscience would like to think that the film speaks of a past that has now been left behind, but, in a world where private prisons are operated for profit, we cannot afford to become complacent. Perhaps Ghosts of the Civil Dead has been re-released at just the right time.

My favorite Nick Cave album is the one with the slow, blusey songs with not much melody that have the affected, gothic, quasi-literary lyrics and the vocals that sound like they're playing at too slow a speed.

I love the new album as well. I just sat there one night and listened to "There She Goes My Beuatifuli World" like 20 times in a row... he's still got it!

damn, it's nice to see so many other Nick Cave fans. I usually feel like the only one except when I go to see his shows.
I have to admit that most of his newer stuff doesn't have the same impact for me that most of the pre 2000 stuff does, possibly because I'm not a very religious person or maybe because I'm not quite ready to settle down just yet, but I'd still say that he's the only artist that I'm actually a "fan" of.

I used to listen to Nick Cave all the time and then my tastes moved in other directions and recently stumbled upon my Murder Ballads CD again and immediately fell in love with his music again. I had forgotten just how great he is. Which meant I had to put him in heavy rotation on Winamp. I also got his new double CD which I can't get enough of either. Now if he can just get his ass to Phoenix and play I will be extremely happy.

occasionally a cd peeks forlornly out of a dark corner at me saying 'play me, play me'. So I pick up the cd No more shall we part full knowing there can only be one outcome.

*as i sat sadly by her side*

sync lets forth a few sniffles and perhaps holds back a muffled sob....

*and no more shall we part*

sync has now resorted to all out bawling. please step back to avoid flying snot and pathos with extreme predjudice.........

a few songs later and the whole towns burning

...........*darker with the day*

rip sync.

nick cave, a dangerous weapon of mass depression. keep 'im away, i loves it!
