Just as summer was ending and I was on my way back up to school a friend slipped in a tape of truely amazing music. That music was nick cave and his murder ballads.

Each one is a peice unto themselves, with a dark theme but beautiful vocals. Each one is something orginal and the concept I believe unique. My personal fav is "The Wild Rose" It's a duet between him and Kylie Minigue. It's really something else.

I have fallen for them, now I am maybe looking to expand into more nick cave, any suggestions for songs to D/L?

I saw Nick Cave play years ago in San Francisco. Halfway through the show everyone began curling their noses and looking around for the source of the poo gas that was assaulting all of our faces. Apparently, some woman decided to drop trough in the middle of the venue and blast diarrhea all over the place.

I love Nick Cave, but he should have stopped the show and thrown a guitar with his red right hand at that woman. Impaling her with a six string would have been the only way to save that show. But he didn't. Bastard.

I have seen Nick Cave twice... the first time I went was with someone who was pretty much the love of my life... during the Ship Song we just stood there and kissed... *sniff* I still get all teary eyed thinking about that.

His stuff is fucking amazing. I'm pleased to see that as his musical style changes he's really becoing better and better. His quiet acoustic work is just as fresh and relevant as his earlier punk...

let love in is also my fave by far. i like to think the best songs are on henry's dream ("straight to you" may be my fave). Look for his "what a wonderful world" duet with shane macgowan. also, i think your nick cave experience is incomplete until you've heard him really SCREAM! Check out his earlier stuff with The Birthday Party. Prayers on fire is wicked! zoo music girl live! ZOO MUSIC GIRL!

I love "Murder Ballads" and am on my second copy of it now. (too much play for #1). Nick Cave singing "Hey Joe" is amazing! Also, check out the movie "Johnny Suede", a cool film with Nick Cave, Brad Pitt and Katherine Keener.

I did like book alot but thought immediately after reading it: ...If I'm going to read something so derivative of Faulkner, why not just read Faulkner

eh, i prefer the earlier stuff myself.... much more visceral, less ballady-sugary-sappy-I-wrote-this-song-in-10-minutes crap. "From her to Eternity" is my favorite, his first 'solo' album, when he still had balls, with classics like the title song, his terrifying rendition of Leonard Cohen's 'Avalanche', and the twisted 'Saint Huck'. "Kicking Against the Pricks" has some great covers, especially 'Hey Joe'. "Henry's Dream" is another fav (the 'angry acoustic rock' album). "Firstborn is Dead" is worth it for 'Tupelo' alone. I avoid "The Boatman's Call" like a plague, and his newer albums only have a few decent songs on them. You do have to see them perform live though, he still puts 110% into his concerts. I've seen his last 2 tours, and they were like religious experiences for me (in a good sense, of course)

I don't see what's so bad about The Boatman's Call. It gets a bit repetitive, but "Brompton Oratory" is a brilliant song. But I agree with you, start at the beginning, "From Her to Eternity."

Your Funeral... My Trial is my favorite album by Nick and every song on it is killer, beautiful and dark. The Mercy Seat and Red Right Hand are also stand out tracks.

Just what i was gonna say I dont much rate his later whinging at a piano stuff. My recommendations to start with would be
Let Love In and Tender Pray

I have loved him since I was 12, been in the same room as him 3 times and own some of his old T-Shirts, kindly donated by his ex wife.....

Henry's Dream is my favorite album, but Tender Prey is the one most people seem to be exposed to first.

And just for the record, "Shivers" was a Boys Next Door song. I know, same line-up as the Birthday Party, but still!

I prefer the Birthday Party material, although I enjoy his murder ballads album. (who couldn't?)

Murder ballads are the best... for instance from the Birthday Party one of the most violent, grotesque, and wonderful that I've heard...

"I stuck a six inch gold blade inside the head of a girl
she: lying through her teeth
him: lying on his back
hands of this one, hands off she cried
grinning at me from hip to hip
hands off, pretty baby, tough blood then so soft to slip
ooohh yeah
I stuck a six inch gold blade in the head of a girl
sharks fun slices suger-bed slices that pretty red-head
I love you! now me! I love you!
laughter, laughter
oh baby, those skinny girls, they're so quick to murder
ooohhh yeah.
Shake it baby, c'mon, shake, shake it baby"

you know, i love nick cave & the bad seeds. and i love his latest albums as well. although henry's dream is by far my favorite, followed by let love in, murder ballads, and tender prey.

as for songs to download, you should just buy the above albums (nick cave could use the dough, he needs to eat something) ... or, if you MUST download, get "the mercy seat," "straight to you," "bring it on," "poppa won't leave you henry," "brother, my cup is empty," "do you love me?," and "i let love in."

oh yeah, and "fifteen feet of pure white snow"

Man, Tupelo's good. Also Kicking Against the Pricks and Tender Prey. However for real atmosphere, you absolutely must hear The Good Son.

Now I wanna go listen to Nick Cave...
If you are looking to download songs, get Up Jumped the Devil...

And then go out and buy Let Love In
And buy Tender Prey too...
And then just keep buying until you've bought the whole store.
