The Darkness

I'm nearly positive I'm the only person who bothers to comment here that's not.

Hell, I like almost anything. I like Avril Lavigne for Chrissakes; well, yes, her catchy pop (courtesy of 'The Matrix' music production team, the team behind her and the current Liz Phair, among others), and then there's the fact that I'm completely in love with her.

*stands back and assumes the position "Thank you sir, may I have another?"

You should see how big they are in the UK. Some British magazine called them "the best rock band of the past 20 years". I wouldn't go that far, personally, but it sure is fun to see the British version of David Lee Roth, or Van Halen circa 1984 (not sonically,mind you- they haven't the talent of even David Lee Roth now, but thier lead singer certainly has down his over-the-top stage presence).

I honestly think they ARE neccessary. I think bands like them need to come around every once in a while, to remind people that rock n' roll is STUPID music. Rock n' roll is about being, "Young, dumb, and Fulla Cum".

Most bands nowadays take themselves waayyyyy too seriously. And don't get me wrong; I'm all about good, serious music. But, hell; these days even the crappy , douchebag metal band guys are singing about how misunderstood they are, and how much life sucks.

So, YES: praise the Darkness, for understanding that not everything has to be so serious, so "artsy fartsy", and that Thin Lizzy is a pretty decent band....

And Johhny - I've worked for different music stores for th last 5 years, and I've never told a customer that their music sucks, or that a certain band is shit. You've got bigger balls than than I will ever have.

If I read the English music press, I'd hate all forms of music since they seem to subscribe to the "overpraise then overbash" school of journalism.

But I The Darkness. They sound like the over the top 70's glam hard rock stuff I love (like The Sweet), and they don't bore me like 99% of modern hard rock/metal bands singing about how miserable and misunderstood they are, like some poorly-written self-help manual.

I want to hate it, and I do.
A flash in the pan, if I ever saw one. They will NOT revive this sad musical genre....

The darkness is 70 times better than anything that is played on commercial radio / MTV, and I swear it's all a fucking joke, that's the brilliance.

I have a suspicion that it's all one huge joke. Everyone needs to step away and take a long, deep breath.

I'm glad we finally realized it's ALL "a fucking joke".

They're not the greatest band in the world but there all right, the thing thats great about them is that they don't take themselves so seriously

i think i might be changing my mind... but i wish the lead singer tried a little less hard to sound like freddy mercury. his voice isn't up to it.
