Well, I tried the search function but no threads about Neubauten.

Alright, sign in and say why you like them.

My favorite song in Sehnsucht off of Halber Mensch...but I have to say one of my favorite quotes (in translation in from Haus Der Luege: "God has shot himself, a top floor can be renovated")

This is one of those bands I'm very curious about. I see the name alot and the little bits I've heard only sounded like noise. Is that all they do, or have I just not heard the good stuff yet?

Edited to say: when I say noise, I mean ambient and with out rythm. Not like, "it sucked so it was noise".

And to answer dAHMER's question:
Early material is what you might call "First Wave Industrial" (before NIN and such. Bands like Coil and Current 93 and Nurse With Wound).
Mostly ambient sound, tape loops, noise effects etc.
There are several albums ('Tabula Rasa' is an awesome one) of more traditional song structure.
They're one of those wonderful bands where if you didn't know them and heard 2-3 different albums you might think you were hearing 2-3 different bands.

Awesome! Thanks.

I've been a Neubauten fan since around 1984. Seen them in concert, etc. They rule.

A newer album of there's "Silency is Sexy" is also really terrific. I definately recommend that one.

Well, as for more song oriented structures, I recommend getting Strategies Against Architecture III, as it details their career since 1990(?).

OTOH, as a member of their website, I received their members only album for this year. And if this shows which direction they are going, then I can't wait to see them live.

Sadly, I wish I could have seen the live before. Hell, I wish I could have seen them in concert in the 80s.

what else can be said that hasn't already been said about them? EN was my introduction (after Skinny Puppy) into the crazy world of atonal noise and found musical objects. they are the geniuses of dissonance. seen 'em live twice (though sadly not during the 'good ol' days' of fire, jackhammers, and shopping carts), even in their 40s, with the softer material and Blixa's suits & increasingly prominent spare-tire, they put on an incredible show. Their longetivity is just astounding, that they have been around 25 years and are still consistently putting out excellent, relevant, and challenging music without becoming a self-parody. oh, and that 'members-only' album is quite excellent!!

If you like E/N then you would also like Savage Republic . They used alot of similar found object / home made instrument type music .

Years ago, I had a cultural studies professor who could pronounce "Einstuerzende Neubauten" with so much verve and gusto that I've been too intimidated to ever say it out loud myself.

Meanwhile, the untouchably cool Blixa swaggers through the ruins....

saw em on the Halber Mensch tour in Houston back in 85 or 86 or so...
was amazing... it was the loudest thing I have ever witnessed... the building they played in was basically a larged corrugated steel shack... fucking filled with speaker cabinets
The bass spring thingy they use a lot was loud enough to move my clothing!!!!
Got shut down after about 45 minutes.. apparently people about a mile away were complaining about the noise
it was glorious
I couldn't hear properly for quite some time
but had a big smile

i dig their adventurous experimentation. Also dig how they financed their most recent album. all DIY and interacting with fans online on tracks and stuff. incredible innovation.

hmmmmmm. when I was here awhile back...I posted a thread about this band....funny it did not show up.......they are an immense collective....and I myself applaud blixa for leaving the Bad Seeds to pursue more of their music.......for those not in the "know" you can pay about 35 bucks....and get exclusive live feeds from the studio.....and tell them what you like or do not like right now as we speak from their new recording sessions ......and after that you will get an exclusive cd ( not to be sold elsewhere)......from the songs recorded from this interactive recording session.......ect.....so if you are a fan act now
and if you do not know of this group......good God......and grey scot......act fast!
