Babes in Toyland, while a great band, are not as cool as Toys in Babeland...my second favorite store on the planet!

I have a 7" floating around here somewhere.

Saw them live three times (Bikini Kill opened one of the shows) and Kat could really bring it. Its funny because in highschool I'd stare at that picture of her inside "PainKillers" and think 'where are those girls?' Now I know. Their records rock to boot. I'm into it.

I have lots of great Babes in Toyland stories to share actually. I did a Babes in Toyland fanzine called Screaming Kat for awhile! I actually became good friends with the band thru my fanzine & their fan club... until one day Lori calls me & asks me to help run their fan club. Thats pretty much how I really started to become friends w/ them. I've lost touch w/ Kat... but still hear from Lori pretty regularly. I mean she still goes out of her way & calls me every year on my b-day... and I just got a Christmas card from her too. I visited her this past summer when I was out in Minneapolis on tour w/ Girlush Figure.

I have other stories regarding the 6 times that I did see Babes in Toyland if anybody is interested...

I got into babes in toyland when i was 5 no joke. My dad was really into Nirvana at the time and one of his mates lent him Fontanelle and spanking machine, cuz she thought he would like them. He thought they sucked and gave me the tapes and i loved them ever since!!!
I went to see them last year and they were amazing, Kat was crazy, she kept kicking all these guys in the head and shit...

the last time i saw babes in toyland was halloween of '96. we had backstage passes thanks to my association with the band. it was a halloween show @ the riviera theatre in chicago... and they were opening for gwar. how cool is that? we hung out backstage... chilled in their dressing room... ate some of their food... drank some of their alcohol... one of the most surreal experiences of my life. it was amazing!!! this is when they had fill in bassist dana cochrane on bass though! but, they still had kat & lori!!! kat even dedicated "he's my thing" to me!!! its probly the most memorable show ive ever been to. i miss da babes!!!

I saw them in '95 at Metro. good stuff. Lori had to play a makeshift drumkit with no cowbell. what do you think of the Katastrophy Wife stuff?

biggrin

and is it me, or did Kat used to look like an un-hollywood, punk Reese Witherspoon?
