I usually just put on all of Dylan's really mean songs- Leopard Skin Pillbox Hat, It Ain't Me Babe, etc.- and feel smugly bitter. You know, real productive, feel-good stuff.

yeah.. I've found Positively 4th Street works really well in some cases smile

I'm glad we can all agree that Dylan can be one mean son of a bitch. Add to the list Like a Rolling Stone.

How about mean-spirited Neil Young songs?

hahaha it amuses me that i'm the only person who posted an emo song on here. i guess everyone else is avoiding this thread because they are ashamed! so, in order to make up for that, i'm going to post the incredibly juvenile, yet incredibly cathartic, lyrics of saves the day's "rocks tonic juice magic"

"let me take this awkward saw
and run it against your thighs
cut some flesh away I'll carry this piece of you with me
because all I can say tonight is that I hate you
but it would be all right
if we could see each other sometime

if I could somehow make you mine...
and if not I'll take my spoons
and dig out your blue eyes
i'll swallow them down to my colon, they're gonna burn like hell tonight
because you're beautiful just not on the inside
light comes from within and your beaming eyes don't seem so bright

heart is on the floor, why don't you step on it?
When I think of all the things you've done

boardwalks and breaking waves made our saturdays
i'd buy you lemonade right now if you were here
but then I'd throw it in your face and I'd listen to you cry
remember how I miss our nights under ocean skies

heart is on the floor, why don't you step on it?
when i think of all the things you've done

you and I are like when fire and the ocean floor collide..."

i saw them live a few months ago like 2 weeks after my then girlfriend and i broke up, and they played this song (they rarely play it live), and it was one of the greatest experiences i've ever had at a concert. my friend kyle (also recently single) and i were screaming our fucking heads off...

If it's a bad break up, you can't go wrong with Sam Kinison's Rendintion of Wild Thing.

If it's a mutual break up then it would be Forever Free by WASP

mine wasn't as emo as std, but here's the lyrics for "farewell" by american nightmare.

whatever this becomes
whatever words i say
we are the unfortunate ones...
and when the days are done
i won't forget
all i see in you and me
is a light in the dark of humanity
and whe the days are done
i won't forget
timid steps - come walk with me
and with your useless words
come talk to me
there are broken hearts
now on your stereo
but the broken beats are just too slow
you'll cry - it doesn't change a thing
kill the lights - and let the rain fall
recall - the memories
of yesterdays and better ways
and know - the innocence is gone...
move on - from this day on
we'll never be the same
the saddest songs
makes sense to me...
so with your sunken eyes
come talk to me
two hour drives
are two hours alone
but two hour drives
are better than home
you'll die - it doesn't change a thing
kill the lights - and let the rain fall
recall - the memories
of yesterdays and better ways
and know - the innocence is gone...
move on - from this day on
we'll never be the same
faster words - and faster kids
faster songs - and faster ends
the one thing that's stayed the same...
i've lived through days
i've lived through nights
i've had my loves
i've had my fights...
you gotta know - you have my heart.

Bad: I have to avoid "Good Morning Captain" by Slint when I've had a bad split up. The singer screams "I miss you" as the chorus.

Righteous anger: Anything by PJ Harvey really.

Screwed up and vengeful : Shellac, "Prayer to God". That's so twisted it'll snap you out of anything. smile

My ex just gave me that song on tape to listen to as a way of letting me know that we're breaking up.

Depends on the shittyation. Otherwise, one of the most enduring songs for me would be CINDERELLA's "Nobody's Fool". That song still gives me the whillies when I hear that cymbal come into the opening chords!

hear hear (although not for the angry reason)
i've liked the first Jets to Brazil album Orange Rhyming Dictionary off & on ever since I bought it, but 'I Typed for Miles' stands out at certain points. I think it's the end of that song...

don't really play anything repeatedly, i think i listen to more of the music i own than usual

hmm. After my engagement fell apart...

"William, It Was Really Nothing" by the Smiths..

I think its the whole :

How can you stay with a fat girl who'll say:
"Would you like to marry me
and if you like you can buy the ring"
she doesn't care about anything
"Would you like to marry me
and if you like you can buy the ring"
I don't dream about anyone
except myself

that struck a chord.
Plus I adore the Smiths..
