they're one of those bands that i knew about for years and never actually listened to. then, the first time i heard them, i kicked myself for putting it off for so long.
Hate Paper Doll is my favorite song, although Pretty Green Eyes makes me feel all special too.

heh.... i took the plasmatics first lp (new hope for the wretched ) over walk among us... then ...went back next week and got the misfits...thank god!

as for HUSKER DU...

here's the order of releases in relative importance to brillance

1.zen arcade
2.metal circus
3.new day rising
4.everything falls apart
5.warehouse songs and stories
6.flip yr wig
7.candy apple grey
8.statues
9.in a free land
10. land speed record

#1? fuck it's SO fucking dense it blows my mind... why did rolling stone pick new day rising over it?
#2? the best 20 minutes of my life.
#3? the mini zen arcade
#4? for the title track onluy....fuck the donovan cover.
#5? for the grant vs. bob song craftmanship!
#6? heh... only cos it was on SST
#7? heh... only cos it was on warner bros.
#8? it's a little record
#9? a smaller record
#10? too fast and to masking the real deal.

Iceberg, I don't know....I'm a vegetarian, so Dreamland is sorta wasted on me. And Flip Your Wig was the first Husker Du record I bought, so it's still my favorite. But I know you're probably right.......

Anybody like Grant Hart's songs more than Bob Mould's? I do, but I seem to be a very small minority.....

Nope, a Bob fan here. I really liked some of Grant's songs, but couldn't get past the fact that I didn't like his voice much. However, "Grant Hart" by the Posies is a great song. Look for it.

---------------------
oh, and if I was ranking them:

New Day Rising
Candy Apple Grey
Zen Arcade
Flip Your Wig
Metal Circus
Warehouse: Songs and Stories
Everything Falls Apart
The Living End
Land Speed Record

and Eight Miles High is possibly my favorite cover by anyone.

I remember,

I had a Norwegian roommate about 10 years ago, His English was good, but not perfect. He was rifling through my CD's one night, and pulled out Zen Arcade, he held it up, smiled, and said: 'I remember' I was a tad drunk, and assumed he meant, 'I attended one of their concerts, I haven’t heard them in a while' etc.

What he meant was, Husker Du is Norwegian for, 'I remember'

You think you've made it to the top because people know your name
it's still the same.
Your daydreams aren't forever,
better get your shit together for a new game.
Back to your day job, back to your girlfriend, back to your hometown,
the biggest lie.
Passing harsher judgment but you brought it on yourself by being you.
You trade your respect for no success, you tried to be a hero,
but you end up nothing.

brilliant.
i was always in awe that they WANTED to get that really compressed tin-can studio sound. no other band sounds like the Du in the studio.

also: the "could you be the one" 7", live from the joan rivers show, is a must have because they set the audience on fire AND joan rivers gives them a hearty introduction.
