i know hip-hop isnt discussed much on here and was wondering how many of you actually liked it and what your favorites were.

i do not like rap like soulja boi and all that glam bullshit, some actually have awesome lyrics and cool beats though.

some of my favorites are MF doom and atmosphere.

anyone?

I like some Tupac and even some Snoop Dogg.. Kurtis Blow was cool.

And a lot of early proto-rap songs kick ass, like some any of Cab Calloway's rappish stuff, or Jefferson Airplane's Plastic Fantastic Lover or Dylan's Subterranean Homesick Blues.

But Tupac's poetry and emotion always get me. So much rap & hip-hop seems Soulless and even pretentious at times if that makes sense, like "Gee, we're singin' and we're from the 'Hood, so you know we're cool and you should like our stuff and worship us."

Tupac wrote and sang for real.

No, no, now it's "we have money and you should worship us". That's even worse, and it is pretentious. They are some of the most self absord people in modern media. Those skrulls from Sex In The City and Donald Trump have some tough competition from popular rappers. Say, proto hip-hop? Dig this...

For some reason I'm a big fan of Mistah Fab right now. his music is like listening to a crazy person on acid. Much more authentic than most of the "fuck hoes get money" rap that is all too common.
