Avenged Sevenfold is post-hardcore, in answer to your question. They've had some catchy singles out, sort of in the same genre as Slipknot, in my opinion.
Harder rock, but not quite metal. Catchy melodies with a strong, hard back.
Ignore that picture ^^^, look them up on seeqpod.com, and make your own judgement =)
I don't like singers with whiny voices....I do like Waking The Fallen though. I was completely turned off by them when the singer was singing with a grill in his mouth for one of the videos a couples years back. They just seem like major bags.
The singer from Avenged Sevenfold sounds like Freddy Krueger's glove being raked across a chalkboard. I admit to liking a couple of their songs, but listening to more than two in a row gives me a splitting fucking headache. Whatever happened to metal singers that can actually sing? Not that they're serious metal, but still...
ick. see, this is why i don't go looking for pictures of the bands i listen to.
apparently, pre-City of Evil, they were all screamy and shit. as of CoE, they fucking rock. the guitar work is pretty impressive (compared to the rest of my playlist, which may not actually be saying much), the lyrics are interesting and not straight-out-of-the-diary, and the vox are solid. i suppose i can see where some people hear them as 'whiny', but it hadn't occurred to me before i read it in this thread.
I dig them, but in hindsight City Of Evil is a boring album
Waking the Fallen was basically the quintisentail OC metalcore(hardcore with ridiculous guitars and decent singing) City of Evil was just alot of shredding and not alot of decent material in between
the new one Ive been liking, but mostly because the attitude seems to be "we dont care anymore lets just do some ridiculous shit"
