AFI are amazing! I am a little too obsessed with them! I think they sound quite like the cure, mixed with cock rock and a bit of punk!

i just watched the "Hard Rock Live" with them on it the other night...... and what the fuck happened to those guys? where did all the hard, fast, angry songs go? i don't think they played anything from before " art of drowning". if davey from 6 or 7 years ago saw davey today, he'd slap the shit out of him and tell him to get a fuckin haircut. it just amazes me how a band can do a complete 180 like that, like metallica did to an extent, and just ignore what they once were. if that was the show i'm going to get if i go to see them now, i think i'll stay at home, listening to "answer that and stay fashionable", and relive the old " east bay hardcore" days.

If, instead of just making random assumptions about the band, you actually paid attention to them... you'd see your comment is completely off.
They've evolved. It's been a slow, and long drown out process, of going from boring, bland, primitive punk rock (IE, Answer That And Stay Fashionable cd) to what they are making now.

With each cd, they took a step forward in sound, and made themselves better. And if the Davey of 7 years ago really would slap the Davey of today, and tell him to get a haircut... that would just go to show how primitive Davey was back then.
Seriously... "I wanna be a high school football hero... with an S.A.T. score less than zero"? What the fuck was that? That was teen angst of being picked on in high school... it wasn't anything special in the world of punk rock.

What AFI is doing now, IS different. And if you think AFI aren't hardcore still... I urge you to listen to "Death Of Seasons" or "Dancing Through Sunday" (both from the new cd) and tell me that they aren't more hardcore now than when they first started off.

And they don't ignore what they use to be. The last time I saw them (October) they played 2 songs from Shut Your Mouth, 1 song from Very Proud, 1 from All Hallows, 2 from Black Sails, and 4 from Art Of Drowning. Considering it was a tour to support the new cd/songs on the new cd... that's pretty damn good if you ask me.

Sorry for the long ranting, and bitching, but I'm tired of people complaining about how AFI has "changed so quickly" when they haven't at all. It's evolution people. When a band can't do it, they suck after 2 cd's.... and the fact that AFI have done nothing but grow as a band since they started, just goes to show what they are truly capable of.... which, if you ask me... is pure greatness

i got it all wrong?i thought, in my mind at least, "punk" was all about being primative , angst ridden and aggressive? i think it funny, that a "hardcore" band that despised the glam, arena rock type shit, has become exactly what it stood against...... and you people paid $30 to join a fan club? whatever . i guess your bigger fans than i ever was.
out of curiosity, what was the first AFI albumn you bought or heard? and what did AFI stand for at the time?

I have never been a "punk". I do not listen to AFI because they are or aren't punk, and i don't think AFI would call themselves a punk band.
As you asked the first albums i got by AFI were Shut your mouth and very proud of ya.
I think its a shame people can't just appreciate how much AFI have progressed over the years and how hard they have worked to get to where they are now.
At least they are enjoying themselves.
But then i'm only 18 so what do i know confused

No. Because I kind of think the cult is good. I don't feel remotely similar things about afi.

while both singers sing a little unmanly, the cult can rock from time to time.
