Love Belew , maybe not as much as Fripp or Levin . But love him just the same . Got to see him playing guitar for Bowie on tour . Still haven't gotten a chance to see Crimson live , but will before I die hopefully .

For all you NIN fans, here's a brief clip of Belew recording at Mr. Reznor's house just last month:

I'm only really familiar with his work with Talking Heads, but I remain impressed nonetheless.

When the Bears played the Back Room in Austin, they did the song Discipline, and even brought out a stool for the other guitarist. When Crimson played the Austin Music Hall, they did Larks Tongues in Aspic, Part II, which fulfilled an "impossible" dream for me.

The dream for me would be the Lark Tongue line up reuniting again . Now THERE is a impossible dream . But yeah , some of their newer live releases have tracks from the mid 70's line up , which is my fave . Let's face it , they tend to have a talented enough line up that they could play what ever songs Robert deems that he wants to play . Belew was a pretty great addition for the Talking Heads while playing with them . Cross Eyed & Painless is still my fave TH song .

Off topic, but when I saw Indigo Girls I really fixated on the bass player. She laid down a solid groove, and brought out the (Tony Levin-esque) finger hammers for one song. Late in the show, they introduced the band and it's Sarah Lee, the bassist from League of Gentlemen.

Back on topic, I think Belew did a nice job translating the violin parts to guitar.

No one has mentioned his work on Laurie Anderson's album Mr. Heartbreak. She got quite a lineup on that album.

He also worked on Tori Amos' Strange Little Girls cd . Not her best effort in my book .

He also did some brilliant work with Frank Zappa some thirty years ago. A very versatile craftsman.

I saw Belew playing at the Basement in Sydney, a coupla years back.

He got some local musicians to accompany him, including on some Crimson stuff.

Some of his stuff on Bowie's Lodger album makes my jaw drop.

Frank went from Belew to Steve Vai. He sure knew how to find 'em.

I was born loving the man. "Three of a Perfect Pair" is one of my very favorite songs.

I wonder. . . Does it not seem that he largely appeals to male musos?

He appeals to fans of complicated prog-esque rock and/or cleverly executed effects-laden guitar wizardry.

These tend to be geekboys of a certain type.

I was so psyched decades ago when I saw him with King Crimson and the next night he came out with the Talking Heads.

Fripp gets so much acclaim, but Belew came up with the Elephant Talk and stuff

His album "Sexy Rhino" is awesome (I think that's the name of the album & not just the song - I'm too lazy to dig out my vinyl to check)

He did a short thing in the 80s with a group called The bears and they came out in Philly and held their hands up like they were bears ready to attack and all growled before the show. Really weird, and it wasn't just my state of mind at the time.

All the songs were 3 1/2 minutes or so as I recall, not long involved jams. On the surface, it was sort of poppish, but not really.
