i couldn't find an online copy of the article, but it's in the august 18th issue.

in the article, hilton als writes, "On each new album, Marshall has more firmly established her haunting musical persona: that of a Southern belle in bluejeans, a trashed Faulkner heroine whose arias of disillusionment, hope, fantasy, bitterness, and understanding are played out in 4/4 time and in a distinctly American syntax."

oh, and the accompanying photo is sooooooo hot...
