My fav. album is probably Rust Never Sleeps.. though I have definite soft spots for tons. He's one of the old guys that can still rock me like a hurricane. I mean Mick & McCartney can spend all the time out there bustin' their ass tryin'. But Neil could blow them out of the water at any time with Old Black..
he manages to realize that he's from a past generation and not attempt to be cool still, while at the same time remaining aware in a way of how things are now without letting it effect his music that much. i think thats awesome, even though he isnt exactly one of my favorites.
i am and have been a HUGE neil fan. it was almost all i listened to about 6 years ago... his recent work leaves something to be desired, but i still check it out.
he's always blown my mind - i can't count the times i've been listening to a song of his, even if i'd heard it 100 times before, and all of a sudden what he's saying just resonates for me - like, "fuck, this guy has been right where i am' - and that's amazing.
i'm excited about the reissues - especially On The Beach - one of my all time faves of his. Rust nebver Sleeps is another real good one. Everybody Knows This is Nowhere and Freedom are both great, both coming from such different places, too...
i saw him at msg not too long ago. my tickets were printed with a face value of like, 140-160 bucks and i wasnt even on the floor. supposedly he was doing some concept thing so i just showed up for the kickass 40 minute encore of favorites.
he was beyond great but whats up with those ticket prices neil?
I never thought I was a Neil fan until a friend started working at a shop that carries tons of bootlegs. He played bits from a pretty wide variety of shows and I was totally hooked. My girlfriend's response- 'Well, duh." Once again, I was totally clueless in all things classic rock.
So, does anybody have any Tonight's the Night-era live stuff? Specifically from that tour?

Edited to add I'm really jealous of tadzi.

I have On the Beach on vinyl.. but the idea of a cd realize is making me ____ my pants. It's prob. my 2nd favorite.
I haven't waded into the realm that is Neil Young bootlegs... but I have read his autobiography and some of the stuff sounds dynomite. His new album sounds like it could be pretty good too. Haven't heard it yet.
I also totally dig his 1983 rockabilly gem - Everybody's Rockin'.
