Incidentally, there is stage lighting in the venue. Just no multi-color disco crap.
They were informed of all this prior to showing up that day. Equipment lists (what we had, and what we could afford to rent) were faxed back and forth 2 months--and then again at a few weeks--prior to the gig.

A stipulation of the tour--besides all the free exposure--was that the gigs be on college campuses exclusively. Of course, the UCLA show somehow ended up at the Whiskey. Aside from that, they knew what they were getting into.

Most likely, they did not see throngs of kids out front. It was the last stop on the tour. And they're chumps. They pussed out plain and simple.

I think their music is OK...but they sure owe a lot to Jesus & Mary Chain.

They owe their entire sound to the Mary Chain. Derivative with a capital "D".

As to the cancelled gig controversy, I've seen some great shows that were lit with just white light. If the songs are good and the performers have charisma, the lighting is irrelevant.

That shit sucks! Every song on the album is in Bb and sounds just like the others.

I'm glad I didn't waste any money on such bullshit. So they shop out of the Merc catalog.

With Cramps-ish retro thrown in.

I like the stuff I've heard, although it's kind of light and fluffy under the feedback.

But if they're the pretentious asses they're made to sound, I no like no more.

Hrmph. Interpol and the Raveonettes were both slated to play at different venues on the same night in O-town. This disco-light crap pretty much settles which derivative act I would rather check out.

I think that went out about when mobile phone companies started sponsoring tours. How come you didn't try get cash back from the sponsors?

I like the new album.
