If you don't know about them, you should check out this band called The Minibosses.
They cover old video game songs, and they do it incredibly well.
damn, someone beat me to it. my favorite would have to be the silent hill series. the first has the scary grinding and twisted static, SH2 had really great guitar tracks, and the studio version of i need love on the SH3 ost blew me away.
My all around favorite is definitely The Final Fantasy Tactics OST. 2 disc. (Ps1 game) The music grows on you during game play, the soundtrack is astounding. A great piece of musical work it is.. By Masaharu Iwata and Hitoshi Sakimoto. I bought this at gamemusic.com.
Oh shit. How could I forget REZ for ps2..? The soundtrack is ill..and it changes with every weapon you fire and the amount of activity on screen.. never the same each time you play it. electro techno.
Then there is the PC game Dune: Battle for Arrakis music. The music for House Ordos was some very fine electronica as well. Adds very well to the atmosphere of the game. Too bad the game doesnt work with xp. I miss playing it.
final fantasy 7 (the battle music alone was so hardcore)
legend of the dragoon
bubble bobble
grand theft auto vice city (just the wave channel give me new wave or give me death i say)
and finnaly, contra was bad ass
but as for the best ever, I have to go with Zelda, the music from all of the games is so good. I was a tad giddy when playing SC2 and that music started up!
