Cant wait to pick me up a copy (me = skint right now). The single/promo is cool as. They are a great band, and I'd say that, for me, they easily wipe the floor with the old Radiohead stuff (I hate pre-ok computer radiohead). Though I dont know about the "good" (my opinion wink ) radiohead, because theyre just grand.

puke While possibly being the best band to actually come out of Wales, they're still not great by any means.

They had the potential, but then so did a lot of bands...

The Super Furries are a hell of a lot better than Mclusky, Zabrinski, Murry The Hump, The Crocketts, The Keys, The Caves, Powder, Sammo Hung, Legs Akimbo, Gorky's Zygotic Mynci, The Manics (*snigger*) or any other decent Welsh band that people can actually name these days...

No No No, The BETA BAND is better than Radiohead, and much more close in sound.

The Beta Band is Welsh though. As are travis, i think, but they aren't as good as RH

First of all, Travis is Scottish... and I think The Man Who is far better than any album by SFA or Radiohead. wink

I still can't believe how overrated Radiohead is, and I've had a few years now to get used to how overrated they are.

Having said that, I think Radiohead have put together enough good songs (that's songs, not albums) to be better than SFA.

That's an unbelievably pretentious comment considering your earlier responses to this thread....

How many people outside the UK have even heard of the Super Furry Animals...??

HUNH?!
So who exactly was being pretentious in this thread?

How many people outside the UK have even heard of the Super Furry Animals...??

Quite a few it would seem by looking at this thread. And I wasn't talking about outside of the UK - I was talking about outside of Cardiff.

pretentious
adj 1: making claim to or creating an appearance of (often undeserved) importance or distinction; "a pretentious country house"; "a pretentious fraud"; "a pretentious scholarly edition" [ant: unpretentious]

2: intended to attract notice and impress others; "an ostentatious sable coat" [syn: ostentatious] [ant: unostentatious]

I'd go for definition #2 as what I meant... wink

Wasn't that what *you* were doing by namedropping?

I was just questioning if anyone had actually heard of the other bands...

Cherry I named the other bands as you, once again, love to bash anything to do with Wales at any opportunity that you can...and they are examples of other Welsh musical talent which could stand up for comparrison with SFA...whether they are better or worse is entirely due to individual tastes.
It was not a case of 'name dropping' as you put it... whatever

Wales has an unbelievable amount of musical talent per head of population compared to most other countries in the world. When the music and talent is dismissed with your standard puking smilie I feel it's worthy of a comment in opposition to that blinkered and biased viewpoint.

It's nice to see that at least one person on this thread has seen Gorky's play live at least...

But what's the point if no one on here can even hear half of these bands (yes, some bands have releases, which are possible to get after a struggle in the US) but some of the bands you mentioned don't even have releases - so what was the point other than to name drop? And you were mentioning those bands as bands that "most people can name these days" and I say that most people outside of southwales wouldn't have even heard of some of these bands let alone be able to name them. So again, what was the point?

As to me "bashing wales" it's not the talent, or wales itself that I dislike - it's the apparant scene and all the inscestiousness that I dislike (actually, it's not just Wales, it's the whole of the UK). I do like a great deal of welsh music - Mclusky (their first album at least), SammoHung (will always be a favourite), Salad Days (and who has even heard of these), Festering Nun (again who will have heard of these) blah blah blah. My point is, why mention bands no one has heard of just to "TOOT the horn for wales"?

And you should know how much I hate the "Better or Worse" argument, so lets leave it at that.

Wales has an unbelievable amount of musical talent per head of population compared to most other countries in the world.

How exactly do you know or could prove this? I mean, most of the bands you mentioned very few people will have heard of outside of Cardiff, so are you telling me that there aren't other bands all over the world on the same scale, with just as much talent? Get down off your High Sheep.

When the music and talent is dismissed with your standard puking smilie I feel it's worthy of a comment in opposition to that blinkered and biased viewpoint.

Hang on a sec, I still don't know where you've got the idea that I like to bash Welsh talent? This thread was NEVER about Wales until you piped up. I bash several bands all over the world every day, so don't think Welsh bands are getting any special treatment or attention from me wink

Besides, I never said I disliked SFA. I ADORE Radiator (was a favourite album of mine when I was 16), but I don't like their later stuff. It's my opinion - aren't I entitled to that?

And the pukey icon was in refrence to the old "comparison" in the title of the thread, thanks.

It's nice to see that at least one person on this thread has seen Gorky's play live at least...

I've seen them play 4 times and I used to love them... some bands just go off my track of taste sometimes ::shrug:: it's only natural, it is creative and personal to the musician afterall..

Again, I'm entitled to my opinion about SFA's latest stuff, just as you are entitled to yours. I was merely questioning the reasoning behind mentioning a bunch of bands no one's heard of.

Again : This was never about Wales, it was about the new SFA record. So fucking what if they're Welsh? I know, I'll start a thread about Scarfo and someon else can bash the English or I'll start a thread about The Hives and someone else can bash the Swedish...
