I can’t believe I’m doing this...but since I posted the first article I felt obligated to follow through. In what may be a response to Curtis “four dimes and two nickels” Jackson’s comment that he would quit his solo career if he didn’t outsell Kanye West, Mr. West recently said that he doesn’t worry about record sales, only realness.

“(I) never cared about being No. 1. I feel like my lyrics are, if not THE, then equal to, the realest lyrics out," he says. "I connected with so many people without talkin' about guns and drugs. ... It's harder to go to work 365 days than shoot a person in one day.”

He also said,

"There's nothing about wearing a pink Polo that would make anyone believe that I would hold a gun."

While I do support the fact that KanyeÂ’s realness and wardrobe keep him from killing people and, more importantly, singing about killing people, I donÂ’t exactly feel any deep personal connection to his songs about ego gone mad. I also think it would be harder for me to kill a human being than to work for a year -- at least from a moral standpoint, but whatever.

Now on to the title of this article. It turns out that while he isnÂ’t impressed with the realness of a man with a bunch of actual bullet wounds, Mr. West does have a man crush on the uber-real Justin Timberlake.

"My biggest inspiration and biggest competition is Justin Timberlake. He's the only other person that gets an across-the-board response and respect level - black radio, white radio."

Yup nothing realer than a former mousketeer and ex-front man of a manufactured boy band. Does Justin even sing anymore? All I know is he keeps showing up in movies. I even thought he did a good job in Alpha Dog but none of that makes him a musical visionary. Also, I didnÂ’t know radio came in colors. I can say that across the board I do have similar feelings about both their music. Anyway, Kanye continued his Justin slurping.

"If Justin hadn't come out and killed the game, I can't say that my album, singles and videos would be on the same level that they're on. We push each other. I look at me and Justin like Prince and Michael Jackson in their day."

Damn he had to go and pull the artist formerly known as a symbol and Wacko Jacko into it. I guess Justin and Michael do have similar skin tones. Plus I thought Kanye wasn’t about the violence yet here he is praising noted “game killer” Justin Timberlake.

KanyeÂ’s final quote really sums it all up as far as IÂ’m concerned. When asked about his perpetual whining when he doesnÂ’t win awards he had this to say.

"Because people can't really handle the truth. But I am the truth. I'd rather be hated for what I am than loved for what I'm not."

Well at least we can agree on that.

GreyOut promises he will never, ever, bring this shit up again.

Racial slurs = cursing, in my book. In media such as music or movies, sometimes it's justified. A lot of the time, it's gratuitous.

Kanye West is a douchebag. "Fiddy" is an even bigger douchebag. I may break my boycott of the RIAA to buy Kanye's album, though. The prospect of Curtis Jackson retiring is too attractive for me to not consider it...

So which one is Prince and which one is Jackson? In 20 years I doubt that either one of them is going to be in the Super Bowl half-time show. On the other hand, I'd believe that both would be arrested for sleeping with little boys by then.

I wouldn't be surprised if Kanye's persona is 90% performance, for the sake of the fans and the record execs. I mean, they've institutionalized people with lesser God complexes than his supposed swagger.

And did you avoid making any allusion whatsoever to your own musical preferences for fear of in kind responses, or is it just a fluke?

Important qualifier bolded for clarity.

As if performing the Super Bowl halftime show validates one's contribution to music.

I really don't understand why people hate him so much. So he's a little eccentric, egotistical, and runs his mouth a bit. Since when are these not accepted traits in artists? The kind of people most vocal about hating him usually don't even like hip-hop to begin with, so they have little credibility in their judgement of its musical merits.

Anyway, the proof is in the pudding, and he makes some damn good pudding.

He got too popular. Plus he threw a fit when he didn't win best video. But mainly, he just got too popular, and is keenly aware of the fact that he's one of the few people around who has mixed critical acclaim with mainstream popularity.

To be clear, no, I don't think that being "too popular" is actually legitimate grounds for disliking a musician, but no one asked me.

You are supposed to hate him if you are a middle aged white man/woman who thinks of him/herself as "alternative" or "edgy". Some people are too cool or deep to find the persona of an entertainer appealing.

I don't think that's right. It's mostly young people who are too cool.

Which isn't to suggest that a great many actually just don't like his music. I'm not actually discounting that. It's just that at a certain point it became cool to say that you didn't.

I beg to differ. Many people, myself included, find him annoying because they love hip-hop and can't stand mediocre talent at best getting much more exposure than great artists.

I'm going to have to throw myself under a bus and say I thoroughly enjoyed the majority of Justin Timberlake's "Futuresexx/Lovesounds" because it it a great pop album. Timbaland's beats and the sort of seemless way the songs flow into one another were some of the standout moments of the album, as well as a slightly different approach by Timberlake as far as a very varied rhythm throughout the album, which is unusual for pop recordings ( however not groundbreaking).

I think Justin Timberlake is striving to reach the level of Michael Jackson, and taking many of the right steps. Although Michael achieved his peak in his early twenties, while I believe Justin is still working up to his best album. Hopefully this will delay Justin's bleaching of skin as well as forrays into Jesus Juice.

I don't think Kanye West is the greatest producer in hip-hop, but I do think he is pretty good. I would think his album sales would greatly deteriorate if they didn't have Kanye West the persona along with Rhymefest's ghostwriting and above average production. However, I agree that people do not look at him as an artist anymore, but as a celebrity, and it is really cool to hate all celebrities...
