This message board alone pretty much proves that whether you're a die hard fan, or would like to go back in time to kill little baby morrison you can not deny that The Doors, as well as Jim Morrison made a huge impact on rock and roll.
I mean just think of all the bands that existed at the same time as The Doors, many of which may have been far more talented than the above mentioned, yet The Doors are still a pretty household kind of name. Sure you may not know any of their song titles, or album names, but the band name, The Doors is pretty well known by a lot of fucking people.
Now that I think we should all be able to appresiate.

Pat Boone is a pretty well known name too. tongue

My final word: the Doors were great, then good, then decent, then shit, shit, shit, shit. Like so many other bands. What bothers most people about them I think is the number of times they've had to hear some stoner with four remaining brain cells rhapsodize over "Riders on the Storm" and "Light My Fire".

Opinions are like assholes; everyone's got one and all but mine stink.

Jim Morrison was an amazing poet who was fortunate to have three great musicians as friends. He was Elvis in lizard-skinned jeans.

John Densmore played his drums with a special touch that few drummers can grasp. He didn't have to pound away and smash it up, he could barely touch them and convey a beat.

Robbie Krieger worked magic with his guitar. "Spanish Caravan," anyone? Or perhaps "Waiting for the Sun?"

Ray Manzarek could play boogie and switch to a dirge and still play the bass pedals with his feet, all while keeping up with a dervish of a singer.

And as far as not rocking, man, throw on "Morrison Hotel," suckle a bottle of your favorite brown booze, and dare your feet not to move.

Depending on who you read, many critics believed that if Arthur Lee were willing to get off his ass and tour, Love would have been Elektra's Big Thing with the Doors playing second fiddle. While I do like the Doors and have for years, I think Love was an infinitely more talented band and they played with a lot more fire (7 and 7 is, anyone?) while still retaining a certain baroque-pop sensibility in a lot of their recordings.

At least when "Love" tours sporadically these days, it's Arthur Lee and not some supporting castmember profiting off the name. Can't say the same about the Doors, as talented as I think Manzarek is....

I THINK DOORS WAS SOO HOT HOT AND STILL HOT...NOT BECAUSE THEIR MUSIC.. BUT BECAUSE JIM MORRISON HAD SOME KINDA CHARISMA THAT MADE LOTS OF PEOPLE JUST FALL IN LOVE WITH HIM, HIS MUSIC, AND HIS WRITINGS...AND NOT TOO MENTION HIS CHANTING VOICE...

Um...not to be mean or anything (I would NEVER do that)...but if you don't at least like The Doors a little, you don't understand rock 'n' roll. Same goes for all of the following:

- Elvis
- Chuck Berry
- The Beatles
- Bob Dylan
- The Rolling Stones
- The Who
- The Kinks
- The Byrds
- The Beach Boys

There are obviously others, but anyone starting any thread saying any of the above "suck" is ignorant and should be ignored.

i don't even think the doors should be mentioned in the same sentence as those other groups. with each of those i can immediately name the original contribution they made to development of popular music. what have the doors contributed?

i just wanted to bump miko's post because no one ever responded to it and i think its right on.
