Keith, did your parents lock you in the basement as a kid? 13 years old and you'd never heard any rock music?
So, maybe GeekUSA's friend isn't clueless, he's just found religion. He worships the One True Guitar Lick.
I was going to scold you all for being snobby towards people who obviously don't care about music as much as you do, but then I realized that if this guy is actively comparing some bands to other bands, then he must have something invested in it, too. Why don't you go easy on him at first- get him a copy of Nuggets, or some of those early Saints records, or something similar. You don't want anything too abrasive or weird for his first trip around the block.
I was raised by my grandparents, who were from a very small town in Oklahoma. They liked country music and gospel, and we didn't have cable. The only exposure I had to rock music was through my "bad kid" neighbor, who I wasn't allowed to hang out with until I was around 13 or 14. I wasn't that interested in music as a small child, really, not enough to pay attention to it. I was more into reading and general dorkiness. That all changed when I hit my teens. Before that point I had probably heard rock music, but it just slid right off me and didn't effect me at all.
I kinda like that I was that sheltered. I got to have the experience at 15 years old of hearing the Beatles for the very first time. Crazy. After that I went voracious, and I felt like I had to know everything about this rock music there ever was to know.
in response ot the last post of him possibly being sheltered? no not at all, his mother was an acid jazz singer, we live in houston texas which is a huge city with lots of record stores, he is in his own band, "which really sucks" so he isnt sheltered he just makes assenine comparisons.
GeekUSA said: ...he goes " No, in that video they look like little fags getting ready to fuck each other in the ass." "huh?". Fast Forward two years and he's going "oh i love the strokes man blah blah blah they are so great ive loved them since day one, they are the best."
Well, I think the answer here is clear. Your friend is coming out of the closet. Please be supportive of him at this difficult moment in his life.
I have a big backyard with several problems buried in it... if you know what I mean? Bring 'em over some weekend and we can solve their musical ineptenance permanently!
*and all at the low-low price of only $9.95 per hole!
I have the craziest idea!!! How about everyone tries to stop looking at music according to "Scenes" and just listen! Like it or hate it, try judging it buy the music itself, not what the band members look like, or what bands they used to be in, or by what scene it fits into........................just ..................listen!
