RIP, Max Roach

Max Roach, one of the most important percussionists in history died today at the age of 83.

One of the first bop drummers, Roach was a member of several of the most important groups of the time, including the Quintet that recorded Jazz at Massey Hall, often named the greatest live jazz recording ever.

Here he is, still ripping later in life:

God speed Max. One of my drumming idols.

I just heard this on KCRW on my way home from work.

I didn't get out of the car until they finished his story.

Legendary the man is.

Man that sucks. I don't even know much about jazz and I know he was awesome.

RIP. I have so much stuff with him on it, because he really played with everybody. But I'm gonna play Money Jungle now (Ellington/Mingus/Roach).

He changed everything. Thankfully he was around long enough for that to be realized and appreciated. Peace and solace to his family and friends during this difficult time.
