Unexpected Worst: Autechre. I'll buy their albums, but I'll never go see them live again. If I wanted to watch pasty white guys crouch behind screens in the dark I'd set up a mirror in front of my computer. Please, if you're going to have a live show, do something. Not to mention the music was unintelligible pounding tripe.

Seriously, though! Their live set hasn't inspired me in any way since 95ish (right around the time the magic left the "rave" scene for me as well). They've discussed it to, so I know it's purposeful. Playing with no lights is part of the plan. Playing almost nothing (and sometimes just NOTHING) that is recognizeable from their MASSIVE catalogue is part of the plan. And I respect them for presenting their "art" in the way that feels most truthful to them. But I completely agree with you that it doesn't work.

i know its not anything new and everybody already knows this but i hadn't been to warped tour in 5 years... and when i went last friday i wanted to shoot myself. not only was every band horrible and not even worth mentioning but everybody there were all emo kids. i think i was the only person there wearing color with colored hair... all i saw was a see of black. so here i say... warped tour is dead

the "good" music will be/is dearly missed

They moved it from Pier 30/32 right in downtown San Francisco out to the Shorline Amphiteater in Mountain View this year. And like, I don't want to dis the Shorline, because I've probably seen 100 shows there, and 90 of them were great!! But I just have no desire to go there for the Warped Tour (been there a few times for OzzFest, so I can imagine the setup). Being right on the Pier, with the City, the bridges and the bay all around you, that was a huge part of the vibe of the Warped Tour in SF. I just can't imagine it feeling the same with a bunch of seats.Plus, you could get there on public trans, like, 6 different ways. You basically can't get to Shorline without a car or a ride. Bleh.

I don't know if it was really a surprise, but (don't laugh) ZZ Top was awesome. Those dudes are like, 105 years old and they STILL can throw down. They were beyond cool when I saw them last May.

I don't know if I've had anyone really disappoint me. I'd have to think about that. I've seen quite a few bands that have been God awful live, but I sort half expected it going in.
