"Mr. Manchester" Tony Wilson has died. He suffered a heart attack while receiving treatment for kidney cancer at 6:05pm (GMT) on Saturday 11th August, aged 57.
He helped shape the British music scene through his associations with Joy Division, New Order and Happy Mondays to name the most famous, and through his record label, Factory Records and the club the Hacienda. Many close associates simply describe him as a cunt, but like him or not the man was much more than this. Through his Granada (Manchester) music TV show So It Goes he first aired amongst others the Sex Pistols. He was more about the music than the money. He was brilliantly portrayed by Steve Coogan in the not completely accurate but suberb film 24 Hour Party People.
This is simply a place for people to share stories about the man, the myth, or simply say goodbye...or whatever really. Tony Wilson: Rest In Peace
I found out last night that Tony was booked for a music seminar in Perth, Australia, a few days before he died. That makes me sad, that I never got to see him

RIP
Hi, just a quick amendment. He died on the Friday not Saturday though I suppose that doesn't matter much. Maybe he has left a hole for me to try and fill as I'm leaving the Carib for Manchester in a few weeks to try and get into the music business again. Big shoes to fill, but one can only try.
