The Scott Walker/Tilt thread got me thinking about one of my absolute favorite bands. Show some love for Jarvis, Russel, Nick, Steve, Candida, Mark, and other members past, and feel the cinematic geniousity that is Pulp.

This is Hardcore is one of the all-time underrated masterpieces.

This Is Hardcore isn't a patch on their earlier albums.

'Babies' is their finest tune.

I think you gotta be an old man like me to fully appreciate what This Is Hardcore is saying. That album spoke to me. It's probably their least catchy album, but it's their deepest. Also, putting that out after the huge commercial success of Different Class was a brave move indeed.

His 'N' Hers is probably one of my favuorite albums of all time. It is so seedy and sexual, yet at the same time there's a pervading air of innocence, or at least of innocence lost. I love it, and I harbour a HUGE boner for Jarvis Cocker. I even named my iguana Jarvis after him!

i completely agree with nic. i will never ever ever forget the image of jarvis vigorously humping the stage when i saw them live many years ago. had it been anyone else, it would have been weird and gross. since it was jarvis though...the crowd just stared in awe, mouths open and drooling. it was intense.
but yes. pulp. *easily* in my top five favourite bands of all time.

I was corresponding with Candida Doyle back when Babies hit as a single......Razzamatazz...Underwear..A Little Soul...Trees...Bad Cover Version.....the fact Pulp didn't get airplay here in the US shows how bad US radio is.....

by the way...the Greatest Hits CD is now available stateside for purchase...a must have..

I still prefer Different Class, but ol' J.C. is brilliant for sure.

Pink Glove never fails to make m cry. And I love Bar Italia. And my mate named her 2 cats Es and Whizz in Pulp's honour.

Aww, my thread made it through the night.

It isn't necessarily their highest quality work, but I really love the synth-y stuff on Separations. Especially Death II. And the fact that they have a song called Death II.

I really love the story-like quality of so many Pulp songs, the detail and visualness(?). It's no coincidence that he studied film.

I find "Dishes" and "A Little Soul" to be very catchy; I like most of that album a lot (the front 2/3 is best, I think). I have His n Hers, in fact it's right here in front of me stacked between Warlocks and Black Sabbath and Mates of State and Chain Gang...it's a stack of CDs that all could use a little more listening by me, frankly...

I got the video The Park is Mine. Nice show. Jarvis proves he can talk to an audience like they're not idiots, too; some musicians can't really do that.

different class is on of the greatest pop masterpieces of all time hands down....i read an article about pulp once and it said that they were the perfect mix between abba and nick cave, i really liked that description

anyone like we love life?
