You know the one- the one album(s) you own that you can only listen to every so often- because it's so good you don't wanna get sick of it, or it's really good but it creeps you out, or it's just too heavy- what are your albums that you can only listen to once in a great while?

So far, some of mine are Scott Walker's "Tilt", as I mentioned in another thread, and the soundtrack (not the original) from the movie "Tommy". What're yours?

Bjork's Vespertine... hmm... actually, a great deal of my albums are "every so often" albums. Since I made the conversion to MP3 I tend to mostly listen to a whole album only a few times all the way through, and then just individual songs after that.

I agree with Keith in that I have soooo many albums (thousands...I've lost count) that I listen to a new record alot for about a week or two (if I like it) and then put away and rarely play it after that. Every once in a while I then get something out and play it but it's rare.

I have a few things that I can only play occasionally. Pretty much all of Spiritualized falls under this. I mean, if I listen to any of Jason's stuff too much, at some point I want to scrape out the insides of my veins. But they're all so amazing, too.

Also in the every so often category are mostly the very abstract or stylized things- Broadcast's The Noise Made By People, lots of obscure Japanese stuff that's, like, a woman screeching while a guy fiddles with knobs on a mixer that's plugged into itself, Danes playing 25 meter long string instruments, etc. I like music that takes me to a different place, but I have to spend some time where I live, too.

oohh . . . I'm inspired, I'm putting on the Who now.

Aphex Twin - Richard D. James Album
Violent Femmes - Violent Femmes (I know I know)
Minor Threat - Complete Discography
The Specials - The Specials

They make it in there every once and a while, but once they're there, they stay for days.

I only listen to Styx's "Styx II" about once a year. Main reason is, it blows, yet I haven't gotten rid of it yet.

Remind me why I bought that album in the first place oh those many years ago?

Nic Endo - Cold Metal Perfection
Lolita Storm - Girls Fucking Shit Up

Listen to them too often and you'll start abducting children. Probably.

Also, for some reason (like "he's a fucking genius") I own 11 Prince albums, but the only one I listen to often is Purple Rain. "... I would die 4 U.." biggrin

I love that album but there really isn't much to it so I try not to listen to it often.
