Rancid is one of the hardest working bands out there these days. If you spent a day in the life of any of these guys you'd recognize the immense dedication they have to the music they produce. They certainly didn't take the high road like other bands of their time and chose to do things themselves, which means they've sacrificed a lot of the rock star lifestyle their peers enjoy. Maybe thier music is not for everyone, but they love what they do, and they're really good at it. If the crowds at Warped Tour this year were any indication, I'd say they've still got an incredibly loyal fan base. And "Django" off the new record is a really rad song.

Thank you! She's right. 100% Rancid has more heart than almost any band any of you haters like. They are a not a Clash rip off. This is the most ignorant dis of Rancid that exists. If you listen to the Clash and listen to Rancid you will undersatnd what I'm talking about. Sure the Clash were an influence but no way is Rancid some cheap clone. I won't say anything bad baout the clash but give Rancid their do. They have more integrity in one chord than any band on the radio today has at all.

Forgot to mention - the new album is great. How many people go through a public divorce, get dumped by everyone's favorite "Punk Chick Du Jour" for the lead singer of another band, and can go and pour their heart out about it on an album? In this day and age of vacuous, empty music for Rancid to actually go back and start writing new material for the album after Tim's marriage ended and for him to bear it all like that says everything I think needs to be said about the band.

You are so right. Rancid is an awesome and dedicated band. They are also a bunch of really cool guys, I got to meet them this year at Warped Tour while promoting.
I've loved Rancid for as long as I can remember and they played their heart out when I saw them live.

s'right - the new Rancid album is GREAT.

why everyone is getting all stoopid about them signing to warners, or being friends with Good Charlotte, is beyond me. mad

they've produced great album after great album, each one slightly different from the last, filled with ace songs.

"Indestructible" is fucking great, and contains some of their best tracks for years...listen to Tropical London or Other Side. Its up there with "AOCTW" and "Life Won't Wait" as one of their best.

I for one can't wait to see them in London next month. tongue

i think the new rancid album is really good.

Someone said "the clash without politics"

I think there is a lot of politics in there music.
Both personal and political

I think "ivory Coast" is a great polictical song, about a country that is a real mess right now.

Just because a band dosent do the "fuck the cops" " fuck the goverment" song dosent mean it isnt polictical

In my mind Rancid is one of the best bands in the history of punk rock.
they've got all the right ingredients and passion to make the music work. Rancid has the most amazing fans ever and that's not just pure luck, that's hard work.
So what, in the new video Kelly Osbourne and Good Charlotte appear. you measure greatness in videos and special appereances? i measure it by the music and their live shows.
And that is where it's at! EL SUICIDO LOCO

OK...i got a lot of mixed emotions about this whole thing...the switch to Warner, the new album (regardless of the switch to Warner), just everything about Rancid right now. I was one of the biggest Rancid fans in the world until this new album...i haven't completely turned my back on them...Life Won't Wait will most likely always be my favorite album of all time by any band...but some of the stuff they have done lately pisses me off.

1) the switch to Warner. The official statement is that there really is no switch...the album will still be released on Hell-cat records, and Epitaph will still own all the rights to the music as they always have, Rancid still has all creative control, the new CD will not have a WB symbol anywhere on it, they are just working with Warner on distribution...Warner might help them distribute the record to places Epitaph can't. So why the big fuss? The fuss is about the fact that all of this stuff in the official statement is bullshit...well its all true but the reason behind it is bullshit. Now it may be just me but when the last record came out in 2000 i seem to remember that it was everywhere...every Best Buy i walked into, every Kmart, every independent record store, every Tower records, it was everywhere....coupons in the newspaper...i mean everywhere. and if I am not mistaken Rancid is huge in other countries such as England where they played the Leeds festival two(?) years ago, even in Japan where they play to sold out arenas everytime they visit. so what you say? well this all means that this little "help with distribution" thing is total crap. Epitaph doesnt need help with distibution. Epitaph is a major label...yes started by Brett Gurewitz as independent and home to many great smaller bands...but its still a major label...not Warner, not American or Capitol...but still fuckin big. So the only logical thing i can come up with for the help from Warner is money. right, whatever theyre getting paid big f'ing deal. no not right. When a band bases its entire reputation on being independent this is a big deal...people feel like theyve been lied to. all four times ive seen Rancid, Lars comes out and says something along the lines of, are you ready for some independent label do it yourself punk rock. or theres this little gem from Kerrang magazine, and i quote, "we look at major labels like theyre fuckin scumbags man, 'cos thats what they are"-Lars Frederiksen. So take all of that stuff and youve got a lot of people pissed off at a band that already had very little street credit (mind you that i defended them at every turn before). thats what the big fuss is about, they already make tons of money, they are hugely successful, but they go and ruin it all after such a long time of stayin so true to what they believed in. it fuckin sucks, especially when a band that influential in punk rock does it, it hurts the whole community.

2) Creative Control. this part doesnt really piss me off becuase who the fuck am i to tell them what they should be making...however has anyone noticed that the edge they once had is just gone now. like i said before some of the record just sounds like bad pop-punk. the music isnt as good as it used to be, but its still pretty good. but the thing that is lackin the most from this record...the main reason i love Rancid...is the lyrics. the lyrics are nowhere near the quality that they always have been. last time they took such a huge break inbetween records (inbetween AOCTW and Life Wont Wait) the product was fuckin amazing...like i said before my favorite album of all time. so you would think that this time around it would be just as good, but its not.

Rancid is one of the hardest workin bands out there...they help other bands that are just startin get it together, everything Lars or Tim has produced is great, the side projects are good, Tim owns Hell-cat...they work fuckin hard. but i think they might have spread themselves to thin. I dont live my life by some code of what punk should be...what punk is or isnt...so im not gonna say Rancid isnt punk rock anymore...this isn't about punk it's about Rancid. I'm not writing this from the standpoint of some angry punk kid, I'm writing this from the standpoint of a fuckin huge Rancid fan...that kinda feels let down. this is just how i feel and it kinda felt good to get it all out just now. hopefully it helped people realize why people are pissed off and why people are baggin on the new record so bad.

Ritchie,
I shouldn't have said anything. You're entitled to your opinions, just be aware that you're makingsome large assumptions. Be patient with them, they still have the best intention at heart. You'll see.

Ritchie, unlike the other rancid criticisms yours are honest and heartfelt. I have to check out the enw album and decide for my self. It's funny how no one mentioned the 2nd s/t album yet. Why cuz uit was not as good. All the rancid albums ahd been better than the previous. Then the 2nd s/t comes out and it was good, but maybe they'd peaked? Then there's the whole transplant song in a fucking shampoo comercial?

I'll check out the new album. I'm gonna keep the faith.

its true that my assumptions are quite large...and maybe its just because i dont understand. the only statement i have heard about it at all so far was by Lars and he said, the only thing i have in the world is my band and my friends and im gonna keep that alive at all costs, not exact words but pretty close (i cant find the article online again). but i have a buddy Cary that works at machete and he talks to Tim atleast once a week, hangs out with them and shit sometimes, and he knows that Rancid has money...so i dont get what Lars is tryin to say...the whole thing is just shrouded in so much secrecy. but your right im sure they have good intentions...they always do. but regardless of that whole Warner thing im still not a huge fan of the new CD.

by the way if you like RANCID, which is pretty apparent check out Cary's band "the scuffs". they are on machete or here the scuffs

biggrin
