New Kraftwerk record out.

"Tour de France Soundtracks" which coincides with the anniversary of the bike race of the same name.

I just got it, so far so good.

that's not very robot-like. you're totally posing. a robot would commit suicide before it harms a human, allows harm to come to a human by inaction, and, err..what was the third rule? dammit Azimov...

anyway...yeah..I checked it out and it's good.

I thought the new album was only ok. It's no Computer World or Man-Machine.

Oddly, its much less distinctive than their earlier records.

Lemonkid, it's all about the German version of Man Machine, Die Mensch-Maschine.

There's nothing quite like Neonlicht to make you love Kraftwerk.

agreed. although I'd give it a 'better than ok'. I'd definitely play some of this in a set. I'm happiest that after so long, a new Kraftwerk full-length can be current, definitely enjoyable and dj-able, and not cheesey.

I don't think it'd be possible for them to be as distinctive as their earlier records since they basically invented the sound of minimal dance music -- that's musical as well. we've had 30 years of Kraftwerk to rip off. I thought Expo 2000 was pretty dignified and well executed. First Kraftwerk record that really works the low-end, too.

agree w/ you 100%, the fact that they made a relevant and decent record is amazing. after so much bullshit from this group about a new record, this one is great one.[

yea!!!

K is for Kompressor!!

kompressor has become what kraftwerk should have. don't get me wrong, i love those nutty germans to death...but their production over the last few years has gotten, ummm, too clean sounding. i guess its lost its electro soul. i haven't heard the new one in its entirety but i do know EXPO 2000 sucked it bigtime.

Kraftwerk is still around? They've gotta be in their 60's by now.

I checked out Kompressor. Sounded like some indie-joke-electro. maybe that's the point. As far as their production getting cleaner, I think records like Trans Europe Express and Computer World are pretty fucking clinical. You want dirtier, listen to some YMO, who are also amazing. I liked Expo2000, especially on a huge system. The remixes are pretty cool as well. They invented the genre, I couldn't expect them at probably 60 to carry the torch forward when you've had a decade of Aphex Twin, plus newer stuff like Mouse on Mars or the stuff on Kompakt like Closer Music, which is minimal as hell.

I'm the operator w/my pocket calculator...you know, I left a journal entry of mine w/all the lyrics to that song up for like a month and nobody got the reference(!) I heard the new one owes a lot to deep/funky French house more than Krautrock/early electro...still haven't heard it, though...thoughts? opinions?
