I have an idea.

I think you should play good music. That people like and/or want to listen to. Try and avoid playing bad or boring music.

I know it's kind of an unusual idea, but I think it just might work.

Then there's the Black Crowes deal... Is a cocktail napkin a contract?

Depends. Is it meant to be a contract?

In their case, no.

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

My understanding of it is as follows:
When they were starting out, they got drunk in a bar after a gig with some random stranger, who at the time they all thought was really cool. During the course of the drunk talk (...ah sweet, beautiful drunk talk...) they drew up a pie chart on a cocktail napkin showing this guy as part of the band with an equal share in all things. The bar closes, they all head their separate ways, never see dude again.

Cut to several years later when they are big and have money. Dude materializes back at of nowhere with the cocktail napkin and files suit for his share of the band's earnings, claiming that the napkin is a legally binding contract.

That is the stuff that law school exams are made of. The answer is "maybe".

I know it went to trial, but I think they reached a settlement before there was any ruling.
