The Ventures should be in before either of those two...especially XTC (??).

I'd also like to see Wanda Jackson and the Dominos in there.

And Van Halen?

As long as the Hall continues to shut-out Prog Rock, they will remain on my goodside. The more punk bands, the better.

The Jam's not in yet, right? They should be.

ventures?be real... how about a band that put out music for 25 plus years not some has been surf band from the 60's, Domino's? so what.... they put out a few hits for 5 or so years. i'm talking longevity not wonders from the 60's.

I kinda agree that the jam should be there, although i think paul deserves it more for what he has done, Style council was good and his solo stuff is way way kool.

I LOVE the Jam. but they had 10 years as a band.
XTC had 28 or so.

Rather like the Beatles versus the Stones then ? longevity does not equal quality or influence..the Sex Pistols lasted 18 months.....

I don't know, I think his best work was with The Jam. But he should go in twice. As a solo artist and with The Jam.

Great point I never thought of the beatles- stones thing., interesting. The pistols did become PIL and yet i see how much influence they had on early punk music. I would think that kraftwerk deserves the credit for influencing, Gary numan, devo, human leauge(bef) and other electronica new wave. Where as in my opinion XTC influenced alternative bands throughout their history, more then just a initial shock.

If you're going to bring up the K word , then I'll bring up two others who folks either love or hate . Rush & Yes . It's more of a " Who does Rolling Stone magazine love " of fame then a true hall of fame anyway . That's why ultimately I don't give a shit as to who makes it in .
Oh yeah , and King Crimson too .

You really don't have a clue, do you? The Ventures have played for close to 50 years. Not that that should matter. Secondly, The Ventures had 17 albums in the top 40 and have sold over 90 million albums. Thirdly, they are easily the biggest instrumental rock act in musical history. Lastly, The Ventures are one of the most widely recognized bands in the world: after their album sales dropped in the 70s, they began touring the far east and became the most influential American rock band in Japan, selling over 40 million records there.

The idea that you think that XTC is even close to The Ventures in terms of longevity, influence, or importance is insane.

About a dog who found two bones
He picked at one
He licked the other
He went in circles
He dropped dead....
