No stranger to controversy and self-promotion, Marilyn Manson is the next rocker in line to take a potshot at My Chemical Romance. According to a handful of articles on the Internet, Marilyn and MCR frontman Gerard Way have been trading barbs over Manson's song "Mutilation Is The Most Sincere Form Of Flattery," which is reportedly about My Chemical Romance.

In the song, Manson croons "Hey, there's no rules today/You steal instead of borrow/You take all the shapes that I make/ And you think that you thought/All the thoughts that I thought/Don't you?". In his typically melodramatic way, Manson told NME that he's just sick and tired of watching others capitalize on what he believes to be his own identity.

"I'm embarrassed to be me because these people are doing a really sad, pitiful, shallow version of what I've done.

"If they want to identify with me then here's a razor blade. Call me when you're done and we'll talk."

Accustomed to catching shit from all directions, Way told brit rag Rock Sound that the band just shrugs these kinds of attacks off.

"We still haven't found someone that has knocked us down that we need to take seriously. If Elvis Costello said we sucked we would think about it a bit but usually it is comments from someone with a new record to promote so the remarks ring hollow."

In a perfect world, Alice Cooper would step in and set everyone straight. Mr. Manson; the ball-gag's in your court.

Big deal! One emo rocker critizising a bunch of emo kids.
I used to like Manson, and I still love the old albums, however, his two latest studio efforts were nothing short of disappointing.

IMO Manson shouldn't be happy when writing new material, let alone in love.

Wow thats ripe coming from a guy who's built his career and image by ripping off the like's of Alice Cooper and David Bowie.

I don't think I heard Alice Cooper say anything when Manson did a sad, pitiful shallow version of what Cooper did 20 years prior.

Shut the fuck up Marilyn, you're no longer relevant.

They should both stop whining, they both suck big monkey ass. My god Emo's are fucking annoying, why don't they just stop crying and cheer up a bit. It can't be as bad as all that.

I urge you: Cheer up Emo kids smile

Let them fight it out to death. Regardless of which of them dies it would be a pleasant drop of chlorine in the gene pool.

OKay, I'm confused. Since when are the more uptempo, freakout songs that MCR comes out with anything like the more Darker, sinister rock that MM comes out with similar. I would never have put these two in the same category. I do believe MM is great, but he has gotten a little self-centered. It's not always about him. And since when is MM Emo? I'm so lost. What is happening to music now adays? Everyone labels everyone. Everyone is either Emo or a Poser or a Sellout. Shit, what happened to just loving the music?!?

Okay. Something doesn't jive here. I recently watched that interview Manson did with some superconservative who seems to fancy himself the next Larry King. The guy kept trying to bait Manson, and Manson didn't bite once. He came off as a consummate professional, while the interviewer ended up looking the the asshole. He was mature, cerebral and composed, not someone who'd get into a proverbial bitchfight with a band who's about 14:45 into their 15 minutes.

Simply put, music aside, Marylin Manson's attention-getting tactics are usually far more elaborate than whining about alleged biters. I'm going to sit back and wait for the punchline.

I don't understand where Manson's coming from. I think he's way smarter than a lot of people credit him for (he's always very articulate in his interviews) but um.. yeah. It's not like he has the market cornered on depressing lyrics, because stylistically, MCR and Manson are not even close. If he's going to go after people with horribly morbid music, what about Alkaline Trio (for example: step one: slit my throat, step two: play in my blood) or Saves the Day? I dunno. It seems silly and pointless in any case.

I like older Manson stuff but I do love MCR. I have seen them once in concert and want to go see them again in Atlanta in August. I have never been to a Manson show but I know that My Chemical Romance put on a HELL of a show! It was very artistic and creative. Even their videos are dramatic. Typical little "emo" band stuff I guess. But I have been a fan of MCR since the 1st CD and have all of their stuff. I have seen interviews with Manson and watched the My Chem story DVD and I really dont see any similarities between them. (Other than make up, heehee) All 3 CDs are different from each other. Marylin Manson doesn't have dark lyrics copyrighted so he needs to stop whining. I agree with akagoldenmoon--he just misses Dita!

I can see where Manson's been heavily influenced by Cooper and Bowie, but for better or worse, he's done something of his own. (I don't listen to Manson, I'm just sayin'...)

Whereas MCR are just awful. I'd like to put them and Fall Out Boy and Panic! At! The! Disco! and all those other awful melodrama-in-eyeliner bands into a bag and drop them over a cliff.

You clearly missed my point. They actually write about how nothing in this world original and everything is a simulation of a simulation and in no way did you understand what I was saying.

Good attempt to argue with me though ... almost worked.
