As was previously reported a few weeks back, the not-so-ambiguously homoerotic sextet of shock, Turbonegro, are poised to return with their new album Retox very soon. In fact, the record comes out Monday in Norway and the rest of Europe shortly after, but US fans have no choice but to suffer the exquisite torture of waiting 'til August 14.
For those rabid Turbojugend who can't keep their excitement in their pants, the band has posted the entire album online to provide a taste of what's to cum. That's right, from warm-up to completion you get 12 tracks of cock-and-balls rock-and-roll to stream and enjoy through your tinny laptop speakers. Listen while you can, 'cause they'll probably take it all down by the time their newest slab of filthy plastic hits stores.
I won't ruin the surprise of whether the tunes live up to earlier triumphs like Ass Cobra or Apocalypse Dudes... but I'll leave you with this humble description from their press kit to whet your carnal appetite:
[Retox] is hard, heavy, hilarious, terrifying, offensive, dumb-ass, thought-provoking and plain genocidal all at once. It IS rock. Total rock. Total Turbo. A record which, to borrow a lyric from its riotous lead single, 'Do You Do You Dig Destruction', will hit you like "brass-knuckles and a 2-by-4."
It is the sound, they add, "of cold steel slashing through hot leather."
while I was extremely excited for this record, while it's good, the massive bump-up in production didn't sit too well with their harder sound and the songs didn't really translate well. I definitely liked the last one better.
there's no 'grab you by the balls' rock anthem on it. It's an ok album but it needs at least one kick ass jam and it's just not there. It's missing an "Age Of Pampyrus" type of song.
