Just because you're dead, doesn't mean you can't sell shoes and it seems that no one knows this better than the makers of Doc Marten's. Evidently, the company is about to run a new poster campaign depicting Kurt Cobain, Sid Vicious, Joe Strummer and Joey Ramone as angels hanging out on clouds and wearing Docs.

We wanted to communicate that Dr. Martens boots are 'made to last,' and we discovered that these idolized musicians wore them. Showing them still wearing their Docs in heaven dramatized the boots' durability perfectly. And, as images, they feel very iconic.

According to a story on The Daily Swarm, the images have only been cleared for use in the UK so far. If you like what you see, credit should go to photographer Dimitri Daniloff and retoucher Christophe Huet who collaborated to enhance and retouch photos of the pop-icons licensed to Dr.Martens by Corbis.

That is quite possibly the creepiest picture of Kurt I have ever seen. Not to mention, he's probably screaming in his grave about being used an advertisement for SHOES. Since he was avidly against any sort of commercialism and all that.

If they were really rock and roll, shouldn't those pictures have more flames, and little half-goat dudes with pitchforks?

Or was that just Meatloaf.

Wasn't Kurt a Converse All-Star man?

And didn't Joey wear those weird plimsolls the other Ramones had?

What the hell is wrong with the people at Doc Martens? So someone saw this and said, "yea, this will motivate people to buy our shoes". whatever

haha yeah i have to wonder about that one.
they aren't very good pictures.

maybe i've lost my soul here (if i ever had one) but i think the overall idea is kind of cute in a sleazy, market-rebellion-to-seventh-graders, madison avenue kind of way.

bullshit.

i love Docs, don't get me wrong. i've owned many a pair in my lifetime, but if anything, they are not "made to last". the multiple holes in the shoes of my Doc Marten graveyard is testament to that.

that they are using dead rock stars to peddle their products is just the frosting.

Don't plimsolls = All-Stars?

But you are correct. I don't think any of these guys wore them on a regular basis. They sure weren't known for it. Pretty disgusting either way.

If only.

using the dead like that is bad enough but didn't all those guys sport chuck taylors and not docs? the problem lies with the ad agency though and not doc martens.

anyways, it looks like dr. martens did not commission the ads and they were just a concept that was never approved nor were they supposed to be released. dr marten has since dropped the ad agency responsible for the images.
(thumbs up)
