biggrin I was made fun of yesterday for listening to that......but what can I say, Dave Gahan has the most sexy voice......And songs of theirs NEVER get old sept for the REALLY early shit, that shit was lame.....llike their first single. But Blasphemous RUmours, Shake the DIsease, Black Celebration, Personal Jesus.....the goodies. And don't forget Everything Counts (in large amounts)..... or barrel of a gun.....yeeah. What do you all think? I might be knockin on heaven's door with this post,, it's not like the 80's were ALL bad though. THere was some great shit that came out of it......especially Boy George. puke

Personal Jesus is a cool song, but I don't really know any of their other stuff, so I can't really say. They seem pretty cool though.

early depeche mode not lame..."new life", "ice machine", "nodisco", "just can't get enough" definitely not lame...

mid-period dm somewhat twee and often embarrassing..."master & servant", "people are people" make me cringe...

don't like any of the latest stuff...

To me they are one of the most important people in electronica. The band never fails to put out great albums, even their solo records are amazing.
and...yes...Dave Gahan has the sexiest/sleaziest voice in Rock and Roll. EL SUICIDO LOCO

Violater is a great album, but I haven't cared for much of the other stuff by them. But every song on Violater is really good.

I'm in love with everything from "Violator" backwards. The newer stuff is just too mainstream.

I don't really care for "Personal Jesus", which makes me odd, I guess. Anytime you ask someone who isn't a huge fan to name a song, they name that one. I always figured more people would remember better songs, like "Enjoy the Silence". "Personal Jesus" annoys me.

What I think is funny is how many Faint fans are on this site and how none of them seem to have figured out that The Faint is basically a Depeche Mode tribute band (without the catchy songs).

FYI, Violator is kinda "newer" for DM since it came out in the '90's. That was their last decent album. Pretty much all of their best stuff came out in the 80's. Also, by the way, the new Dave Gahan solo album pretty much sucks.

Black Celebration....my favorite!

I still listen to them every once in a while......brings back lots of memories of me running around downtown Portland when I was 14, dressed in black with my pointy shoes with buckles and my big purple hair.....ahhhh good times I tell ya!

i think songs of faith & devotion was actually a really underrated album. love violator, naturally, but felt "world in my eyes" always deserved more recognition than it got. great song. also "policy of truth". black celebration, music for the masses, i like it all, the earlier stuff i own mainly just to round out my collection but don't listen to it as much as the rest...to me it just sounded like dave (and the rest of the band pre-martin) was just trying to copy a sound as opposed to creating their own. plus dave hadn't really honed his voice. after martin came along...big improvement.

i do like the newer stuff...not every song but i think my favorite part of it is definitely daves voice...it's absolutely the most beautiful it's ever been.

ay ay!

oh yes, some DM...

one of my faves.

Halo, Walking in My Shoes & In Your Room are all great songs.

i actually liked Master & Servant and other songs from that era.. but then, i really dig the old fun 80s stuff. People Are People is an old favorite....

basically, anything up to the latest album or two i really enjoyed for the most part... the last two weren't *bad* so much as i just didn't get the same feeling from them.

They are one of the all time epic awesome bands. Everything is supper innovative good except there supper early stuff. They have managed to be a major musical part of my life for many years. Its funny how bad Martins solo project is so bad.
