Anyone listen to mostly just grindcore or grind? I've seen a lot of threads about punk and despite sounding like a punk rock elitist I became bored with "punk rock" a while ago. I was curious if anyone was into these genres of music.

yup, i listen to grind core and deathmetal alot these days. punk and hardcore were just not as " hard" as they used to sound to me, so it was the next logical step. mainly listening to dying fetus, circle of dead children, goatwhore, six feet under and old corpse.

Yeah, I don't really touch punk. Mostly I prefer post-punk, Grind, and death/black metal.

Bands of that sort that I def like are Exhumed, Lamb of God, Dying Fetus, The Locust, and The Daughters.

Anyone else have any recomendations?

Grind / grindcore isn't my thing. Brutal Truth and Pig Destroyer maybe, but beyond that I get bored with the lack of real music theory and articulation. Playing fast only gets you so far.

If you haven't all ready, you should check out God Dethroned for good black metal. Currently in my cd player has been God Dethroned, Deicide, Lamb of God, and Dark-Tranquility.

I have no clue if the guy's a street teamer or just another fan. I'm skeptical of Century Media bands nowadays. Most is pretty ok, but they're not as ground-breaking as they used to be. Just look at what they're housing in their CD shop now and you'll get my drift.

hell yeah....i love grind....
brutal truth, soilent green, pig destroyer, sigh, cephalic carnage, the locust, charles bronson, spazz, melt-banana, dillenger escape plan, totalfuckingdestruction, goatwhore, early napalm death, logical nonsense, and necrophagia are bands i dig. i agree that century media is pretty worthless now-EYEHATEGOD was the best band ever on that label, but now there's nothing left.
grind on!!!

as much as i lvoe bands that are thrown under the grindcore umbrella... i see no difference really between grindcore and any other form of heavy music... because just like punk itself it takes on so many shapes and faces and sounds i don't see how it can all be grindcore... how are the locust and dystopia both the same style of music? how are napalm death not considered thrash or death metal or hardcore (with more distortion)... and arn't dillinger escape plan a little to technical to be considered grindcore?

it's all great stuff, it's all heavy as lead sneakers, but it all doesn't make sense to me how it's all considered the same. sub-genres suck.

I was obsessed with it when I was 17, but I've kinda got out of the genre. I had this dubbed tape of Dahmerized that I played over and over again in my car one summer until it broke. I was mostly into the whole crust-grindcore thing; Dystopia, Word Salad, Cripple Bastards, Agothecles, Disgust, Coalesce, Doom, all that shit.
I sold a large part of my collection to fund my new obsession for 80's thrash metal.
Some good friends of mine are in a fuckin killer grindcore/sludgecore band called McVeigh. We played many a show together until they moved to Pittsburgh. If you ever get a chance, or happen to see their name on a flyer, they're worth checking out.

GRINDCORE.COM has an interview with Anders from Nasum mainly talking about "Human 2.0". It's a pretty decent interview. I suggest checking it out if you already haven't.

Yes maybe subgenres do suck, but what distinguishes grindcore bands from most other types of heavy music is...that for one early grindcore bands such as Napalm Death, Carcass, ect. all started out with a political message than spread further with subgenres of it's own such as "goregrind, porngrind, deathgrind (a lot of metal and electronical influenced bands). And most people don't know that grindcore is a punk influenced genre of music not metal. Secondly it's a subgenre that started after the post hard-core movement of the 80's.And grindcore is not very structured and is more noise than melodies and harmonies. The only structured type of grindcore there is would be nu-grind, which is respectable but not my cup o tea if you catch my drift. I hope that offered some explaination even though it goes way further than what I attempted to explain.

Listen to it and play it. Grindcore is the damn best. Discordance Axis, Pig Destroyer, Assuck, good ol' Napalm Death, Brutal Truth... this list could get really long, so I'll stop. wink I'll emphasize: DISCORDANCE AXIS. Greatest band ever.

[shameless plug]My grind band is playing tonight (Wednesday, July 9th@ The Embalming Room,2921 NW Nicolai , w/Kalibas and Bung). You PDXSG'ers that are into the grind and whatnot should come on out. We're driving up from Southern Oregon. Help us out! Be a pal![/shameless plug] biggrin
