Bad Religion - They're songs combined some awesome riffs with intelligent, thought provoking lyrics that have you googling words for hours! Greg Graffin is also such an inspiration with his music, world view and intelligence.

Rancid

Rise Against

The Clash

I put The Clash as a runner up as whilst they are Punk Rock Gods who were there at the start and Joe Strummer was the voice of a generation, but when compared to the Punk that followed the music just doesn't quite stand up. Rancid for example combine some of the most phenomenal musicians in the world.

There are some obvious classics mentioned here, The Sex Pistols, The Clash, and The Ramones, but what about the other punk groundbreakers who were also great, (if not greater due to their anti social overtones).

Does nobody recognise Ian Dury and the Blockheads - Hit Me with your rythm stick/ Sex and drugs and rock and roll - or Debrah Harry (Blondie) - both are recognised punk icons, and yet nobody remembers or acknowledges them.

I am a true geezer, and am dismayed how easily great artists are forgotten. frown

All Skrewed Up is a great record, as is the You're So Dumb/Better Off Crazy single.
I like those records better than most of the crap people are calling punk on this thread.

Skrewdriver ruined their music with their message. silly skinheads. great tunes... but too bad they had to "stand for something" (that something being balant dumbassery... ha. )...

best punk bands?

WELL...

The Middle Class recorded a song called "Out of Vogue" in 1979 that is still as bad as as it gets.
DOA were tight... solid... and well were bad ass.
The Bad BRAINS... best live act ever (1982-86)
