Why are drummers at the bottom of the food chain when in comes to a band... they're almost always picked on and not taken siriously as muscicians...
We drum loards are the BACKBONE of any tune..
Without us all you have is melody... And just melody is overrated...

Do you mean YOU'RE being picked on by your band? I mean, nobody picked on Bonham, and Geddy and Alex don't gang up on Neil, and I'm pretty sure Def Leppard is nice to the guy with one arm, Coltrane didn't smack Elvin around, and Art Blakey and Buddy Rich were bandleaders. Do you just need a hug?

Now that u mention it a hug sounds nice...
But thats not what I mean... I said picked on.. but not literally.. I mean our opinions about a riff or how the vocals should go at some point are not taken siriously...

Okay, *hug*.

Now then... I think it's about sucking. Either you suck or your bandmates suck. If you suck, then it makes sense that they don't listen to you. If they suck, then of course they're not going to listen to you--you're casting pearls before swine!

Seriously though, if you've got suggestions on vocals, why don't you sing? Levon Helm didn't sit behind his kit and tell Robbie how to sing: he got himself a mic and did it himself. Nobody's telling you how to drum, are they? Bands fall apart when they start telling each other how to do their respective jobs. So if there's something you want to try, try it. If they won't let you, then well, we're back at the question of suckage and where to apply it.

Q: How do you know your bassist locked the keys in the van, again?

A: Cuz the drummer is stuck inside with them.

No shit. I'm a drummer in a band & co-write & arrange all our songs.

I love trying out for bands, as the drummer you are simultaenously dispensible & indespensible.

Some of my favorite bands have integral drummers that are incredibly involved in the creation and identity of the band. Deerhoof, Yo La Tengo, Lightning Bolt, Mice Parade, Don Caballero, ...Trail of Dead, Shellac, The Ruins . . .

And for all you pop/punk lovers, note that blink-182 would be (and were before he joined) nothing without their current drummer.

Drool comes out of both sides of the drummer's mouth.

see what I mean...
You will find more jokes about drummers than every other band member.. with the exeption of the lead vocal but cuz of the ego thing...
I know that there are a lot of talented drummers out there.. that not only write music but compose it as well... but the preconceived notion is that all the thing drummers are good for.. is for keeping time...
But is time to show otherewise

drummers are usually crazy. its true
keith moon, john bonham, bill ward, etc.

the bassist is usually fucked though. in terms of groupies, the bassist is usually the bottom of the food chain. unless youre in jefferson airplane

Actually, I know a LOT of girls who find drummers totally hot. The rest of us are just jealous 'cause our moms never let us have a kit in the house.

I don't think they get picked on a whole lot but I do think that they get the least credit. Maybe that's because we're always hidden away in the back. A good drummer can make a band.

Here's my drummer jokes off of one of my websites:
