Roy Orbison was sooo much better than Elvis Presley

I love them both, but I'm curious about your reasoning behind this bold statement.....

Roy could sing beautifully and write his own songs, but I don't think even he would agree with you about who was more deserving of Superstardom.

I think the first songs elvis cut for sun records are simply amazing. I also think elvis was a little more versatile. I still gots love for Roy tho.

I like Roy up to about 1964 and E up to about 1958 after that it gets bad, Roy stuff is weak after 65 and E got all clam baked and Las Vegas cheese.. yuk.

yeah, Orb was way better
but i think the Gene Vincent and Eddie Cochran comparison was a lot more valid
and still, they totally beat Elvis...they actually wrote the songs...Elvis just sang em (not as well either)

I'm with the 'haunting' thing about Orbison's voice by the way... Totally. Also I think Elvis was more of a pin-up, y'know? Orbison didn't have the looks so he was more about the music because he wasn't getting pawned off on teenage girls...

no but what im saying is that they wrote and played the songs that elvis ended up covering and i prefer the originals. Im a Sinatra fan, obviously i dont require the artist to have written the music or the lyrics. I just feel that if i had a choice between listening to Gene Vincent or Elvis, is Gene Vincent, no contest.

like someone said its apple and oranges on Roy and E... Roy wrote his tunes.... Elvis was a better performer... Roy was cool but kinda weird looking... E was pretty...end of story.... both had their own unique act going...
Roy was E's fave'o singer if that says anything, ....
I could understand all the bickering if this was a Roy O Vs. Chris Izaak contest...but Elvis??
if it wasnt for San Phillips, Bill, Scotty and Elvis all them rockabilly cats would have just kept on doing Hank Williams style songs...

Roy was still kickin ass up 'til he died. If you ever get a chance, check out the SNL he did in 87 or so. It's amazing.
