ok at the risk of being the lame ass who listened to Steve Martin LPs in his bedroom and not IN THROUGH THE OUTDOOR, does anyone here have a fondness for comedy records?

About 2 months ago I was in San Diego and found a really cool record store that was having a half off sale on comedy and country records. I loaded up on Kris Kristoferson and Redd Foxx records. By the pound it seemed like.

With the recent comedy records by Mr. Show's David Cross and the very funny CDs by none other than, Neeeeeeeeeil Hamburger, are comedy records becoming (gasp) hip again? Not that all of us are going to go out and empty the vinyl bins of Nipsy Russel and Godfrey Cambridge records but...and I the only one who looks for this stuff?

we were just talking about this.. it wasn't in a 'comedy records' thread, though.

As I said in the earlier post, Steve Martin's Let's Get Small did a lot to shape my personality, I think.

i really like Shut Up Your Fucking Baby. There was another David Cross thing that I listened to a lot, I think it was the audio from an HBO special or something cut into mp3s, really funny.

I really the last thing I heard from Lewis Black. I think it was called Back in Black. Not sure if it was a true Comedy Album, or just audio from a special or something. Really funny shit.

Weird shit I found recently>

Jim Cato: Chitlin's and Caviar
Richard Pryor" The Wozard of Comedy (did anyone else know that Pryor hat like a zillion LPs out on Ladd Records? totally asde from his Warner Bros. records)
Smother's Brothers- Live from the Purple Onion (sounds LAME but actually, they were damn funny.

All time fav. comedy records:
Mel Brooks and Carl Reiner: The 2013 Yar Old Man
Steve Martin: A Wild and Crazy Guy
Richard Pryor: Is it Something I said?

Ok...giant dork here

i don't own much comedy, but i have friends who do, and i appreciate it. the funniest shit i've heard is the naked trucker and t bones, the stuff i heard was bootlegged, and i'm not sure if they've released anything, but they're playing at largo in a week or so. if you don't know it's on fairfax across the street from canter's.

and he really is naked.

I love the new David Cross - Shut Up, You Fucking Baby!... but i think his first one, "The Pride Is Back" was better...

another great one is Steven Wright's live HBO album (can't remember the actual title)

I just recently picked up the Dave Attell comedy CD, it's hilarious, and of course you can't go wrong with classic carlin stuff, still have a few cassettes of his stuff, maybe I'll dust them off.

I would love to get my hands on some Steven Wright and some Robin Williams bootlegs (his 'Live at the Metz' is not as funny as his later stuff).

Comedy records are one of my closeted passions. In addition to a lot of the stuff already mentioned, I've got almost all of the records the National Lampoon put out.

Anyone who doesn't really know stand-up albums too well would be smart to start with the "Woody Allen: Stand-up Comic" disc. It's is sure shit from start to finish.

oh oh oh !!! *pees pantaloons*

Tenacious D - comedy and good music rolled into one.
David Cross - It's DAVID!
Mitch Hedburn - simple hippie pot head humour. He was even on that 70's show a couple times.

I saw Mitch at the DC Improv about two years ago. He was funny, but I'm not sure he really knew where he was.

yesss!!!
i was just going to suggest him! by all means, try and find Rudy Ray Moore on vinyl.
i looove comedy albums..especially Richard Pryor. he really is the king...definitely get the cd boxset, or just try and find his stuff on vinyl..
no matter what kind of mood i am in, a Richard Pryor album can totally cheer me up.
my good friend has all the Steve Martin albums, and the Eddie Murphy stuff too..i never got around to them though...i got kinda derailed by the Firesign Theatre, Bob & Doug Mckenzie, Father Guido Sarducci and others...
I have 2 albums by the guy that went on to be the principal on Welcome Back Kotter, they are pretty funny too.
