Tori Amos manages to do a better version of "Famous Blue Raincoat" than Leonard Cohen did, which is something I thought impossible.

Frontline Assembly's cover of "Justify My Love" is good, clean fun.

Dropkick Murphys- Rocky Road to Dublin (traditional..dunno if it counts as a "cover" though)
Solas- Dignity (Bob Dylan)
Cramps- all of em (various)
Dead Kennedys- Viva Las Vegas (Elvis)
Faith no More- Lets' Lynch the Landlord (Dead Kennedys)
Man or Astroman- The Munsters Theme song
The Damned- I'm Bored (not really a cover...but they did their own version of Gary numan's "In Cars", for about 1/3 of the song, "Gay Bars")

And German Industrial band Laibach, who did a cover of entire Beatles' "Let it be" album. Simply kick-ass-ingly awesome.

And, oh, lets see... a whole shitload that I can't remember right now.

Minor Threat---Stepping Stone (the Monkees)

wheee. henry rollins did a cover of kick out the jams, with bad brains that's pretty decent....

american nightmare - dead and gone (the trouble): features gibby from the trouble and sounds faster and better than the original
deathreat - dear sirs (koro): obscure hardcore punk bands covering obscure hardcore punk bands, except this song totally rips and deserves to be remembered.
converge - clean (depeche mode): the first time i heard jake bannon's singing voice... it's surprising how well they pulled off this song and you can hear similar sounds in their newest material.
converge - serial killer (vio-lence): converge takes a dumb 80s thrash metal song, pushes up all the sliders on the mixing board, and creates a brutal, blindingly fast, thrash-fuckin-tastic piece of noise art. you need to hear this version of this song. fuck the original, this will make you a believer.
cat power - the covers record: the whole thing is amazing, she totally transforms the songs that she covers. she's the voice.
coalesce - black dog (led zeppelin): coalesce actually did a whole ep of zep covers but this is the best just because the riff in black dog is so fucking rad and fits their style of playing so well. sean ingram's brutal growling is perfect, too, because i could never fucking stand robert plant.

i know there's more but i can't think of 'em off the top of my head... there are a lot of punk/hc bands covering each others songs, but a lot of 'em just sound the same to me... honestly, when one grindcore band covers another grindcore band, what's the point? oh well.

Lordy, too many to list 'em all. Got a real sweet tooth for covers. A few that stick out:

-Celtic Frost: Mexican Radio (Wall of Voodoo)
-Galaxie 500: Ceremony (Joy Division)
-Siouxsie & The Banshees: Gun (John Cale)
-Robyn Hitchcock: It's All Over Now Baby Blue (Dylan)
-Cat Power: Path of Victory (Dylan)
-James William Hindle: I Started A Joke (Bee Gees)
-Jack o' Fire: Trouble Everyday (Zappa)

HELLBELLY you're the only human being I've heard mention this band besides me. Nice to feel like a band this good didn't miss everybody before they imploded.
