Back in 2003, while AFI was sitting on top of the world enjoying the success of Sing The Sorrow, frontman Davey Havoc and guitarist Jade Puget announced that they had formed an electronic side project called Blaqk Audio.

At the time, the duo spoke to Rolling Stone about the endeavor and how a shared interest in electronic music led them to experiment with all different styles of composition, ranging from ambient to industrial to EBM and back again. According to the article, Blaqk Audio wrote eight songs and planned an album, but little else surfaced and presumably AFI's busy schedule prevented Havoc and Puget from pursuing their recording plans.

Fast forward to 2007 and suddenly Blaqk Audio is working again. Recently, the pair created a MySpace page and posted an update.

In case you were curious as to what Blaqk Audio is, it is an electronic group/band/duo, featuring Jade Puget and Davey Havok from AFI. Jade programs all the music and Davey is the vocalist.

The music, which the world hasn't heard a single note of yet, runs the gamut of electronic music, from dark to dancy to grinding. There is a full album nearing completion and will most likely be released within the next couple of months.

Music samples should be coming soon, so keep your eyes and ears open.

As for AFI, the band will be playing some west coast shows in March before heading to the UK and Europe in April and May. They will be on the road in support of last year's Decemberunderground.

Sing The Sorrow wasn't a bad album, but they might as well have just changed their name to something because it wasn't AFI. Fans of both eras are few and far between.

As for Decemberunderground: puke

I'll give Blaque Audio a chance though.

Since day one, AFI amazed me. Davey's vocals were so unique, it gave me chills (in a good way of course)!
Yes I am a huge fan of the old AFI but the new albums have grown on me too.
I am a huge fan of electronic! Lets just say im more than ready for Blaqk Audio.

Regardless of every body's opinion on old vs. new AFI, you gotta admit

1) it's pretty badass that they're talented, adventurous, and passionate musicians. Their capabilities shone through from their early albums to the newest.

2) it's very badass that they're into different genres of music.

yeah.

Everything AFI has ever done has been great, and I can always tell its AFI, if you listen they were going that way for a long time, it was a slow progression, but each CD got them a little closer to sing the sorrow. The lyrics are always great, I love his voice and I love all the music, I have all of there CD's and love them all. I can't wait to see if this new thing they are putting together is any good.

Very Proud of Ya was good for its time; it doesn't really hold up well. Answer That is still great though.

I don't know why I keep responding to the AFI threads.

It really bothers me when people shit on Sing the Sorrow. AFI is not a band that I would put on any top ten lists, but Sing the Sorrow was a really good, well put together record. And as much as I liked Art of Drowning and Black Sails, it's puzzling to me how people can be such purists about the early material that came before that. I love punk and hardcore, but that shit's fucking terrible compared to what they started making when they finally started realizing their potential. It must just be a lot of nostalgia or something, otherwise I just don't understand.

it has nothing to do with nostalgia. its the fact that many people were into the sound they were playing as a young band. i love the music they made in the early years. some of the shit they release now just bores me. its not purist, its just not music i pursue.

that said, im interested in what this side project sounds like.

I love all AFI. Answer That And Stay Fashionable and The Art of Drowning are my two favorite albums of theirs.
The change came when Jade joined the band and Davey Started writing the lyrics, before that the old guitar player was the main writer.

Say what you will about Decemberunderground I still like it
The Killing Lights!!!! Come on man! That song is fuckin sexy.
