I never posted, but I wanted to...what the fuck was with that band the suicide girls picked to open for them for their show? I mean they were decent musicians, but a novelty act at best. They couldn't speak a word of english, and while it was funny for about 5 minutes, it got old very fast. No one in the crowd took this band seriously, and it really was a let down. For a site that is supposed to be on the "edge" of alt-culture, I have no idea why they would choose this band to open. With all the great unsigned bands in the US that could have pumped the crowd up, and maybe been able to interact with the people...I think they dropped the ball. Most of the crowd around me were all saying the same thing about 45 minutes into the set. While I don't think the band was terrible, I think it is definitely not what most people would want to see.

Whoa, I have never wanted to punch someone in the head as bad as I want to punch you in the head right now!

The name of the band is Tsu Shi Ma Mi Re and they are outstanding.

And do you have any idea how many people in the US can't speak English? Give the girls a break they are from Japan! And how is the fact that they don't speak English funny?

Yeah, I don't think you're gonna find a lot of people agreeing with you here. That was maybe something you should've kept to yourself.

Besides, SG has members with widely different tastes in music. There's no possible way they can pick a band that half of the crowd isn't going to hate.

I enjoyed them so much that I purchased two of their albums.

The music was good, their energy was contagious, and the girls themselves were just absolutely adorable. So, I've gotta say that I disagree with you on about every point there.

Also, the comment about their English speaking skills is kind of a dick thing to say. smile

Gee, you're an asshole.

They speak english just fine. I had an hour long conversation with them after the show in the hotel room. Being I only speak a little Japanese, how could I have talked to them if they didn't speak english?

And everyone here LOVED them, thanks.

Since music is something completely subjective, there's never ever going to be a band or artist that appeals to 'most' people. If you want to listen or see what most people consider good then take one look at the music charts and make of that what you will.

What everyone else there thought really shouldn't really colour your opinion of the band. I play in a band myself, some nights the audience think you're the best band in the world, where as the next audience might think you're a total joke without an ounce of musical ability. That's music or any other artform for you.

No one is saying you HAVE to enjoy the band or any other music for that matter, but if I really don't like a band, then the best thing to do is just forget them.

I thought they were fan-fucking-tastic both this year and last. You don't have to like them, but perhaps you should come up with a better reason than "they couldn't speak a word of english." They spoke english throughout their whole set, and I understood them just fine.

I don't know at the NYC burlesque show she did say "I love whiskey" and that made them cool in my book.

So was it just my imagination when they are speaking and everyone is looking at each other asking what did they just say? I understand they are from Japan, and like I said...I have no issue with a foreign band. But if you are touring the US with one act, wouldn't you want a band who most of the crowd could at least understand? I don't think you can please everyone, but if they were going to have this band, they should have had one more. Most of the crowd bailed after the 3rd or 4th song.

Well that's strange, because when I saw them in Baltimore most of the crowd was flipping out and LOVED them.

Anyway, look above to where MissValentine said music is subjective. You may not have liked them, but clearly a ton of people here think they rock. Don't state your opinion as if it was fact, 'cause it isn't.

Perhaps they had trouble understanding them because they have accents, and not because they weren't speaking english? Maybe you should've paid closer attention.

Side note: It always cracks me up when members start threads that could be somewhat controversial, and yet they have no journal, no friends, no pictures, etc.

I don't think that a loud crowded bar is really a place where you can try to decipher heavy japanese accents. I was trying to understand, and really only got about 5% of the words. I can't believe that no one thought maybe they weren't the best choice for an opener. For a site that is about being original, it seems that everyone is afraid to speak a minority opinion in these forums.

Why would it matter what they are saying, they are there to play music, it's not like you are in a deep conversation with them while they are on stage.

But if you are touring the US with one act, wouldn't you want a band who most of the crowd could at least understand? I don't think you can please everyone,

You summed it up right there, you can't please everyone

Most of the crowd bailed after the 3rd or 4th song.

So what was there only like 10 people in the crowd? Very doubtful

That was some of the most punk shit I have heard in a long time esp. from Japan. I have seen them play 2 years in a row now opening for SG and I hope they come back to the US again next year.

what the hell does having a journal on here have to do with anything? I support Sg obviously...but also work 75 hours a week. I'll keep in mind that to have an opinion I have to live vicariously through SG...thanks babe
