One of Bob Mould's most tender moments is the song "Can't Fight It" from 1993's No Alternative benefit compilation. The song is a heart wrenching meditation on a break-up that still leaves me with goosebumps. Even though I'm thirteen years older than when I first heard the track, the same feelings have stuck with me and in a nutshell, this is why Bob Mould is one of the most underrated songwriters in America.

Bob has been quite prolific over the years as a solo artist and band leader, beginning, of course, with Husker Du and including the phenomenal and oft-overlooked Sugar. Bob is busy once more and is putting the finishing touches on his next solo album, the as of yet untitled follow up to 2005's Body of Song. Fugazi drummer Brendan Canty helped Bob record the record, which he is currently shopping around to various labels.

Mould spoke to Billboard about the album, which he claims is a continuation of the musical themes expressed on Body of Song.

"I would best describe it as the logical extension of 'Body of Song'_lots of guitars, shorter pop songs. There's a couple of down things that are a little more loop-based. It's Brendan's opinion that it's a little more somber than the last record. He was like, 'This is some serious stuff!'"

Also in the works is a live DVD recorded at the 9:30 Club in Washington DC. Evidently, the 2005 performance was "show 21 of 25" on that particular jaunt and, in Mould's opinion, "easily the best show of the tour." We believe you Bob. The same band from that 2005 tour, including Canty on drums, will hit the road again in the summer of 2007. With any luck, both the DVD and new album will be in stores well before then.

Awesome! He's great live and such a nice guy. When I went to see him he stayed after and signed everyone's CD's.

Anything Mould does is worth checking out! I have been a fan since the days of the Huskers and remain one to this day.
