Surprisingly, the reunited Stooges have not imploded during the recording of their new album. The record is done and the band is still speaking to one another, at least according to Iggy himself.

Pop spoke to Billboard and revealed that the currently untitled album picks up where the Stooges left off with Funhouse over thirty-three years ago.

At times, [the songs have] a lot of going for the fences," he continues. "But there's a great deal of structure and attention to detail. We were very prepared, and we always have been any time we stepped into a studio. Even the song 'L.A. Blues, the last cut on Fun House was pretty much exactly what you would have heard if you'd seen us live the week before we recorded it."

You'll be able to hear the songs soon enough, as the album goes to Abbey Road Studios in December to be mastered for a March release.

Iggy also revealed that even with Steve Albini and bassist Mike Watt in the studio with them, there was still a tense dynamic amongst Pop and the Asheton brothers, a lot of which was rekindled by memories of the Stooges' earlier, more turbulent years.

"Some of it is exciting and some of it is scary, and I don't care to go over there," he says. "But at the end of the day, I know these guys. I don't know anybody else quite that way."

If you want to see Iggy and Co. live, you'll get your chance this spring, when the band hits the road for a full tour, including a stop at this year's SXSW Festival. Next month, they'll be performing at Thurston Moore's Nightmare Before Christmas Festival and are also slated to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next year.

I'm really hoping the tour does the H-o-B route, that tends to get us in Vegas some bands we wouldn't ordinarily merit. Or better yet the Hard Rock could book 'em. Or if CBGBs ever opens up something here.
