The original Cat power is back. Cat Stevens, now Yusuf Islam, is set to release his first pop album in 28 years. The release in November will celebrate the 40 year anniversary of his first album when Cat told the world I Love My Dog.
The new album is titled An Other Cup. Yusuf handled guitar, piano, and keyboard duties in addition to vocals on the Rick Nowells (Madonna, Dido) produced disc. The disc also benefits from contributions from former Cat Stevens guitarist Alun Davies, keyboardist Jean Roussel, and vocals from African Youssou N'Dour.
This is the first secular recording since he began writing exclusively religious music in 1981.
An Other Cup:
"Midday"
"Heaven/Where True Love Goes"
"Maybe There's a World"
"One Day at a Time"
"When Butterflies Leave"
"In the End"
"Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood"
"I Think I See the Light"
"Whispers From a Spiritual Garden"
"The Beloved"
"Green Fields, Golden Sands"
"Badmind"
Now this really is music news. I wonder what's lured him back to the herectic side of music? He used to be quite adamant that he'd never write a secular song again back in the days of his conversion to Islam.
