i thought the point of boards were to vent and start fun arguments about toally subjective topics... so lets battle without all the pot shots! or whatever, i guess they are part of it too..

bring it.

bashing elitism is not sport, as you make it out to be.

it's duty.

Ravn of 1349 once said something along the lines of: "You could argue that only bands that do something truely unique have any right to exist at all, in that sense almost every abnd should cease to exist, I formed 1349 because I'd rather make the music I do like rather than moan about the music I don't like."

Hidden deep in this thread , a moment of transcendence ! Despite the spelling .

It says I've always got a couple minutes in my day to poke fun at people who are being pompous assholes.

i thought the point of boards were to vent and start fun arguments about toally subjective topics... so lets battle without all the pot shots!

From your posting here, it seems that the point of boards is to post the same mind-numbing drivel about how much better music could be and how you've got the secret ticket to all of the good music out there.

There are way too many bands today. Velvet Underground + four tracks + shitty guitars = an army of disillusioned rip off artists in every city with a population over 15.

It's not the snobs that are a problem. I'm a total snob. I'm just not (as far as I know) a dick about it.

see...this...

i dont really have a choice. i have worked in the music industry for 7 years. and i am surrounded and completely affected by what people like every day... whether i like it or not. Music that is undeniably horrible succeeds in my face everyday... while i slave away for and in bands that are, in my opinions... a million times more talented than a bunch of shite bands who are getting a bunch of credit. Of course it makes me mad that shitty bands get way too much credit... and that is totally ok. I dont have to be utopian and rise above it. I can be pissed, I can get angry... and it's not a bad thing... no matter how much you'll judge me for it. i think all art "scenes", genres, mediums or whatever need feirce criticism in order to produce the really top level quality shit.

And dont worry too much about me, no need to feel bad for me (although i do so deeply appreciate it)... after all my bitching and moaning and venting, I am still going to go to band practice tonight... going to see a good band at a local bar afterwards... and in general still going to spend 90% of my awake time being productive and doing plenty of positive things for my music career and the music industry.

is not the big revelatory "AHH!! HE"S IN THE INDUSTRY!" you probably hoped it would be.
half the site is "in the industry" in some way or another, either as current band members, signed or unsigned, former band members signed or unsigned, musicians, djs, producers, label execs...you name it, we're all here.

so no one really gives a shit about that.
that doesn't lend any credence whatsoever to anything you're saying.
just makes you look silly.
you have no more desire to positively influence "the industry" than anyone else. I can assure you of that. you just want to change it to something it's not and can never be without stifling everything you deem as not good.

ok, carry on now.

jesus man, your hate makes me look like a cheerleader... i dont care to impress anyone... i am being honest. i work with music everyday. its all i do. which is why i care about this topic. thats it.

i know i look silly. i've known that for years.

you're not just a board snob, you're just a snob period. and thats cool... but not unless you accept it. come out of the closet!

After my lame post about lame myspace bands friend requests, I read maybe a page more. Then I just lightly browsed this thread. This is one fucking dumb argument going on here.

if it's so important that you don't like the music being played on the radio, buy a radio station and play all the music you like. if it's so important to you that you don't like the videos they play on tv, get your own cable channel and play the videos of all the bands you want. if it's so important to you that music that you don't like is the music topping the sales charts, buy 700,000 copies of each of your favorite bands' records. if it's so important to you to feel important because of the music you like and to feel more important you feel the need to start a thread like this one, go to your bed and take a nap. rest is more important.

there's a lot of good musicians out there but i'm not going to buy their music just because it's good. i'm going to buy it IF i like it or IF i believe i will like it. if i don't like most of the music on the media right now, i just don't like it and that's that. why would i consciously listen to it to determne whether they're good or bad if i dont like it in the first place?

"A recent small scale study has indicated that tomato juice contains a factor (dubbed P3) which inhibits platelets in blood from clumping together and forming blood clots. The authors suggest this might be beneficial to diabetes sufferers. The actual effect of increased intake of tomato juice by diabetics has never been studied.

Tomato juice also contains the antioxidant lycopene which some people believe might protect against cancer."

from this we could say that tomato juice is good, but that's not gonna make me start drinking it. i don't drink tomato juice because i don't like it.
